  1. Including the wife and kids I would make a killing. Where do you sign-up?

Actually, why can’t citizenship be traded?

  2. Why £100,000? Why not £1 or £1,000,000? Kit makes a good point. Surely an auction would be the best way to fix a price. Would Alistair Darling force the Bank of England to support the price of British passports when Brownian economics policy goes belly up? Or are the exit questions of Festung Britannia designed to prevent a run on the passport?

  3. “Ooooh, goodie, that’s enough to buy a US Green Card!”

Even if you’re, like – stateless?

Tim adds: Actually, buying one is a great deal cheaper than that. It’s enough to buy one “legally”.

Incidentally, Tim, you’re not really seeing the bigger picture. Under the buyout scheme, you really would be on your own – no nation, meaning no consular services.

  5. Seeing how Ireland doesn’t double tax its citizens, I’ll trade my US citizenship straight up for an Irish one, then you can peddle your British one for the aforementioned 100,000 pounds. That would be around 3 million US $, or what?

I’d love to know what Pat Buchanan would make of that comment.
