Normblog on Tim Newman

If you could effect one major policy change in the governing of your country, what would it be? > Drastically reduce the areas in which government is involved, most importantly in the provision of health and education services.

If you could choose anyone, from any walk of life, to be Prime Minister, who would you choose? > Perry de Havilland.

What would you do with the UN? > Remove all members in whose country you cannot drink the tap water.

What do you consider to be the main threat to the future peace and security of the world? > The exerting of excessive political control over the lives of individuals, be it the imposition of Islamic law, adoption of communism, or formation of an EU superstate.

Four out of four, don\’t you think?

  1. especially odious? so they’re all odious but that one most? care to elaborate on what you find odious about them?

  2. okay Lynne Truss, you win a poor punctuation spotter prize. They’re not all odious, just the UN one.

(The first is simplistic and overstated, the second bizarre, and the last verging on paranoid – an EU superstate the main threat to future world peace? Pull the other one.)

If you want to know why the UN one is odious, talk to somebody from a country where you can’t drink the water.

  3. “If you want to know why the UN one is odious, talk to somebody from a country where you can’t drink the water.”

And the one thing they will say is that they do not want their “leaders” representing them at the UN.

  4. well anecdote is not data, but I just asked my Brazilian, Columbian, Indian and Nigerian colleagues – all the not-safe-to-drink-the-water ones I have to hand right now – and so far, Cleanthes, it’s not looking good for your hypothesis
