She admitted that tax havens were not one of the main causes of the global economic crisis but that there was now a “chance to do something about them”. She said: “It’s certainly an opportunity to deal with a sticking point that has been with us for a long time.

That\’s the French finance minister.

Aren\’t we lucky that she has power over us. Tax havens didn\’t cause this problem but we hate them so we\’ll take the chance to do away with them under cover of dealing with this problem.

  1. Agreed. Crises typically fuel increases in the power of the state, not the other way round. As N. Klein’s book went to print, her thesis that governments adopt market policies because of a “shock” was being exposed as seriously mistaken.

    No, I don’t think so, if anything it’s validated it.
