Lynda La Plante

Decent enough writer but no great logician.

\”Publishers, stop spending your millions on this tripe,\” she implored the book trade\’s movers and shakers at The Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards, at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in Mayfair, where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

\”The publishing industry is going to implode. They can\’t pay the millions to these celebrities. If we don\’t cut through the dross, this trite tripe… these reality TV writers who are here for their 15 minutes of fame. Katie Price\’s book outsold the Booker Prize list. She\’s a terrible thing for young girls who just want pink welly boots.\”

I\’m not defending Ms. Price\’s books, those which she doesn\’t seem to have read herself, let alone write. No, it\’s the logic of, well, if it outsells the entire output of \”serious\” novels, then it will likely be earning its advance and thus the publishers can afford to pay large advances, can\’t they?

  1. “Katie Price’s book outsold the Booker Prize list”

That says a great deal more about the Booker prize list than it does about Katie Price’s book.
