Changes at The Observer

A core editorial staff will continue to work solely for the Observer. Other Observer journalists will be integrated into the editorial teams that work across the Sunday paper, GNM\’s other title, the Guardian, and its website network, guardian.co.uk, which includes MediaGuardian.co.uk.

There\’s been a plan for years to close the Observer entirely and make the Guardian a 7 day paper. This blog\’s mole within the Observer insisted a few weeks back that they had seen Rusbridger, with this plan, off.

Looks like the sort of compromise there which will, in the end, lead to exactly that 7 day Guardian, just not quite yet.

  1. Yes, I’ve been reading about this in Private Eye for a while. What’s the point of it? It’s not to cut costs, if they close one Sunday paper and then immediately open another. How is it not equivalent to just renaming the Observer to the Sunday Guardian?
