Wonder if this will shut MacShane up?

Mr Clegg was an official at the European Commission and then Euro MP for the East Midlands between 1994 and 2004, during which time he is estimated to have received up to £1.6million in pay and personal allowances.

MacShane loves talking about Nigel Farage\’s pay and expenses of course. £2 million over a decade he says.

But as this shows, all MEPs get around that sum over a decade (add a bit of inflation for the later period of Nigel\’s decade there).

  1. Oh, don’t be so silly. Nothing will ever shut the egregious MacShane up. In his case, the speed of the mouth far exceeds the speed of the thought, and he is completely unmoved by such inconvenient things as fact. He is so consistently bilious in his opinions that whatever he says is immediately discounted.

One day, I have no doubt, he will say something wise, original or impartial; unfortunately, I will almost certainly miss it because I will have (as usual) tuned out his creepy, unpleasant tones. Please tell me when it happens.

  2. As anyone who has seen the Newsnight interview when Macshane defends his lies about people trafficking even after he has been completely exposed will know that there is no shutting him up.

  3. If Nick was an official and MEP does this mean he gets a pension from the EU? If so, does that mean that he has a duty to sell the EU in order to keep that pension?

Tim adds: The official’s pension, yes, the MEP’s pension, no. Two different schemes with different rules.

  4. Thanks Tim,

I suspect its not much of a pension but it does put a different complexion on his EU waffle.
