Timmy not travelling

This blog\’s interesting hiatus from normal service will continue it appears.

Gatwick is closed because, well, because it can\’t deal with weather that the Russians would take to be a balmy spring day.

So instead of sleeping soundly in my own bed tonight, along with wifey, various dogs and cats and so on I shall be imposing myself upon the hospitality of a friend and his couch again.

Good friend and very hospitable but, you know, hopme is calling.

Grr, grr.

  1. If the USSR was Upper Volta with rockets, then we – after the Brown-Blair despotism – are Russia without snow ploughs.

  2. But surely as an economist first & foremost, you would not Gatwick to prepare as well as Russia for weather that might regularly occur in Russia but not in the UK?

True, apparently this was the coldest November for 106 years (source. Will we get a return equal to the world price of capital if we invest in snow protection adequate to deal with a situation that occurs only every few decades?

Probably not. Grin and bear it and make a snow man or igloo. Have a Whisky if you missed St Andrew’s day yesterday.

Tim adds: Aye, I’m just grumpy, not insisting that you all pay to make my life better.

But if I have to wait ’till Saturday to get home to my wife…….

I hope your wife reads your blog.

Your desire to return to the lordly manor because of your wife is the most romantic thing I have seen this morning.

  5. Here is an advance order for your next book: “Ignoring Snowflakes: The Economics of Running an Airport in a Competitive and Changing World”.

I expect you’ll have unexpected time today to sketch out the structure and draft at least the introductory chapter.

Back to ‘The Rainbow’, that book is so beautifully written that I expect it might even hold the attention of my younger daughter (currently doing A-level economics).

    Best regards

  6. I landed yesterday in a snowdrift (prague airport). Whilst I am sure that the Czechs are better prepared, which would be a waste of money for us, I am also sure that they are not run by health and safety nazis.

  7. Sorry to hear you are still stranded in blighty. Turns out I was lucky to get home Tuesday. Been holed up at home since.

At least you have fine hosts, send them my regards.
