Used as evidence that the supermarkets aren\’t a great deal:

Such supposed bargains help maintain the fiction that UK supermarkets are cheap places in which to shop, when in fact Britain\’s rate of food inflation is three times greater than the average 2.1% for the G7 group of nations.

As a nation we import a large portion of our food.

As a nation, we\’ve just had a large depreciation of the currency. So, of course, as our money is worth less abroad the cost in local currency of imported food rises.

  1. Hi. I’m an American. Twat means ‘cunt’ right? You are being far too friendly to her. Supermarkets (is that how you spell it over there?) are the best thing ever to happen. Cheap food forever. What’s wrong with that?

  2. ….UBS calculations suggest that the higher cost of ingredients would only justify a 3 to 3.5% rise in prices, but UK supermarkets have upped food prices by on average twice that…….

Could that be because the price of packaging has risen, the price of diesel has gone up, and processing costs have also risen with energy prices?
