  1. “all this work will make our house more marketable”: bah, he has to spoil it with a crass bit of puritanism at the end.

  2. “‘Amateur economist’ forgets about utility” 😉

It does seem like he had a great time and enjoys it more now because he did it himself, than he would’ve done if he’d paid someone to do it for him – win win!

  3. “all this work will make our house more marketable”: bah, he has to spoil it with a crass bit of puritanism at the end.

And then hears the wife of the viewing couple of the house as they leave:
“Oh I’d like it darling if it wasn’t for all those horrible little walls. They’re so so common.”

  4. Thank you all …

    1) Tim: I didn’t forget about specialization. Rather, the vXwife confuses the monetary and opportunity cost of my labor.

    2) Super Sam: sorry about the commas. I confess to experimenting with the new casualness about that. Plus I suck at writing sometimes.

    3) dearieme: the crass puritanism was directed at my boss, who needs to be worried about me producing an offer sheet, and who is aware of the property improvements.

    4) genette: I didn’t enjoy the job. I am glad it’s done though.

    5) bloke in spain: where I live walls are too common (and necessary) to be common. It will be uncommon if mine are better built, and look nicer than the other ones after 10 years.

    6) Richard: thanks about the dogs. If you ask them, they’d tell you they helped. Maybe they did …
