America, Georgia, really has changed

These Herman Cain shagging women accusations.

Actually, in at least one case, an accusation of sexual assault on a white woman.

100 years ago they would have lynched Cain even for the allegation. Today they\’re still mulling over whether he should be a Presidential candidate.

Yes, it\’s still possible to see \”black man as voracious sexual predator\” (you might have to squint hard but you can see it in some of the reactions) but I would submit that this is an advance, that the place has got better over the past century.

  1. Well it is a definite improvement. But on the other hand I tend to think that the human race is about as depraved and stupid as it always has been. Which must mean there are subterranean reservoirs of depravity and stupidity bubbling away, ready to break forth in an orgy of cruel and mindless violence.

The only question is the old Leninist who, whom. Richie perhaps? But on which end of the rope?

  2. If his outright denial of an encounter with his latest accuser is shown to be false that will be the end of him. A mercy all round, really.

Oh I don’t know. I am old enough to remember Clinton. Hell, I remember way more than that. But I definitely remember liberals telling us all that sex was no big deal. Nor was perjury. Now we’re seeing the left trying to tear down a man based on rumours and innuendo.

And he just happens to be Black.

    Who couldn’t enjoy this?

I liked Cain though. I would vote for him.

  4. @ SMFS. Sex is still a big deal there, absurdly, and the Clinton comparison doesn’t quite work, the difference being that Clinton was not an obvious dud. I shouldn’t be at all surprised if it is the other GOP hopefuls who are pissing on him.

  5. I’m skeptical about the charges, myself…He did run for Senate a while ago, so why didn’t this come out then?

Oh, yeah…He’s black, conservative, and he’s now a threat.

Sex is still a big deal there ….. for Republicans. As it is in Europe ….. for the Left. They are going after Berlusconi on the same grounds. It is amazing to watch the Left tear up their rule book for such a petty political advantage.

As it should be. I think sex is a big deal. Not the be all and end all, but it is something.

However the real reason the Clinton comparison does not work is that there is no implication here that Cain has ever slept with someone without her consent.

Wow, a comment like that makes me glad I love in America and not the UK. Sex is not a big deal there? Are you British really that asexual? No wonder the population is decreasing.

Yes, I know, the comment was about sex being some kind of qualifying issue in politics, not that people in the UK don’t enjoy sex in private. But for people who really do enjoy sex, whether in private or otherwise, prurient interest will also arise in watching sex in politics. Sure it shouldn’t affect who we vote for (and for most it doesn’t), but it is a good show.
