This is fun

The Daisey thing has got picked up by The Guardian and I\’m mentioned in it.

It\’s really rather fun in the comments: we\’ve even got someone flat out insisting that UK GDP per capita in 1600, or Chinese in 1978, could not possibly be only $950 a year because it\’s impossible to survive on £2 a day.

He seems not to realise what poverty actually means. Nor how poor people were in the past.

He seems not to realise what poverty actually means.3

That’s because in the UK there is a row about capping what people have to “survive” on to “only” £72 per day.

The words poverty and poor are euphemisms for Labour voters.

  2. Read many, not all, of the comments and was saddened to note that these people never seem to wonder what the low paid workers’ lives would be like if they did not have those jobs.

These countries do not have much in the way of the Western World entitlement programs and any pay is better than having to eat out of a garbage dump or starve.

  3. 1. You’re ‘an Apple defender’, so your opinion doesn’t count.
    2. Guadianista’s seem to be complaining that the suicide rate has declined since ‘Foxxconn installed safety nets’ . How is it the installation of nets is not improving the lives of the workers?

  4. ” How is it the installation of nets is not improving the lives of the workers?”

They are conspiring and scheming to ruin the right of employees to commit suicide.

  5. Hmm, the “£2 per day” comment seems to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, given the observation that it isn’t enough for an IPOD?

  6. Frances,

You say “tongue in cheek”, I see evidence of irredeemable ignorance.

Anyway, in other news, my iPad should arrive today …
