Gross fucking ignorance

Christina McAnea, the head of health at Unison, the largest health union, which will present its evidence on regional pay on Monday at its health conference, said: \”The Department of Health\’s evidence on regional pay is built on sand. For a government that says it wants to cut paperwork, introducing regional pay would be a massively expensive, bureaucratic nightmare, designed to cause huge disruption and conflict.

\”Regional pay would cause skills shortages in so-called low-cost areas, with nurses, midwives and specialised staff being hard to recruit and retain, hitting the care of patients.

The actual evidence is that national pay rates make recruitment in high cost areas more difficult and that this then leads to people dying.

You twat.

This is of course pure rent seeking. If there are not national negotiations on what the national pay should be then what point national unions who aren\’t negotiating national pay?

  1. I think more regional pay would be beneficial, but are you alluding to the Wolf study? I was surprised how flimsy that report was given its author and commisioner.

  2. My wife’s expression was a picture when we were on holiday on the Norfolk coast a few years ago and she realised that she could afford a decent house on here teachers’ salary, as opposed to the small place we had in the Chilterns that was consuming both our salaries.

She then understood why it was difficult to get a job there and hard to find someone to work in her school. She’s a convert to the cause now.

  4. Or has been mentioned on twitter, why campaign for a national pay scale and then ask for a london weighting. But though there might have been a scientific survey that found that left wingers were more intelligent* than right wingers this proves how wrong it was.

    * It was social intelligence nor brain power intelligence.

  5. So lets get this straight, the NHS is against any regional pay at all? Simply straight down the board, worker in rural Lancashire getting same pay per year for the same job with same time served as a worker in Westminster?

  6. Not the NHS, Unison is the one campaigning for a national pay scheme. Unison is also one of the unions campaigning for a high London weighting. But that the thing with left wingers who are emotionally driven – they can hold contradictory views at the same time; just witness how a left wing accountant manages to do so. 😉

  7. So Unison want regional pay for London alone while national for workers in Cornwall and Lancashire?

  8. As I have pointed out with a certain retired accountant, to understand the motivation behind apparently illogical and even contradictory statements you need to follow the money. “He who pays the piper” and all that…..
