  1. Have they done well? Anyone who claims Desmond Tutu is clearly living in fear of a well placed Dawkin’s tweet.

They are claiming a lot of people associated with King’s. In a general sense. How many of them have won for work actually done at King’s?

Yes, Higgs was an undergraduate and a post-graduate at King’s. But the work he has won a prize for was done at Edinburgh University if I am not mistaken.

    Mario Vargas Llhosa? Please.

  2. From personal knowledge I, consider Desmond Tutu to be one of the warmest, most sincere, loving and humorous people I have ever met. That said, I do agree that his winning of the Nobel Peace Prize had nothing to do with anything he did at King’s College.

  3. If Tom Kibble hadn’t been done out of the physics Nobel then Imperial would have had one too.

  4. “… Higgs was an undergraduate and a post-graduate at King’s. But the work he has won a prize for was done at Edinburgh University …”: true, but no harm in letting King’s enjoy a bit of the credit. Some Places I Could Mention will claim credit for anyone who so much as lunched there.

  5. For all that Edinburgh deserves credit, Higgs could not have done that work if it were not for the teaching he received at King’s which laid the foundation for his deep (sorry for mixing metaphors) understanding of elementary and sub-elementary physics.
