Breastfeeding bribes or just Nudge at work?

Bit odd some lefty complaining about this:

Breastfeeding bribes? What a grubby little idea
Encouraging breastfeeding is one thing, but handing out shopping vouchers feels patronising and pointless

For the basic current lefty contention is that the State knows what we should do better than we do. We should not smoke, drink only in extreme moderation, transfats are the very devil and so on. And we should be nudged into the good behaviour by said all knowing State.

Bribes or fines, either way. So, why isn’t this just Nudge at work, under the guidance of those all seeing beings that oversee our lives?

  1. While said state insists on MERCURY into our tots as part of the MMR injection, insists on MERCURY as part of amalgam in millions of NHS fillings, and pushes statins, to make us oldsters feel more moronic, no thanks, I will NOT trust “the state”.

  2. Its not as if the Tories are n’t nudging/bribing people to do socially desirable things i.e. buy houses and vote Conservative to keep their prices up( in the sure expectation of crashing the economy). As Nic Cohen says in the Observer today, the Tories have abandoned, with a vengeance, the idea that they don’t indulge in social engineering to buy votes.

Small signs of intelligence in the Tory party.
    Hurrah!
