Isn’t this comforting

The once-powerful uncle of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been executed for treason after being branded “despicable human scum”, according to the state news agency.
….
“Despicable human scum Jang, who was worse than a dog, perpetrated thrice-cursed acts of treachery in betrayal of such profound trust and warmest paternal love shown by the party and the leader for him,” the agency said.

The leader, who presumably actually believes this stuff, is a near teenager with access to a handful of atomic bombs.

  1. I think you are underestimating the degree of cynicism between the rulers and the propaganda agencies in modern tyrannies.

Possibly sarcastically. I haven’t had enough caffeine yet to be sure of the subtleties.

  2. Hasn’t he lost weight in recent years? That and purging his own family shows he must be pretty keen on discipline.

  3. The Nork Peoples’ Daily’s not outsourcing it editorials to the Guardian is it? The style’s hauntingly familiar.

  4. If he had been spying for S Korea his death might be a bit regrettable.
But oddly, that’s about the only thing he hasn’t been accused of.

I suppose this should scare me more than it does, but after five full years of Barack Obama having access to atomic bombs, drones, the NSA, and the IRS, I just can’t muster the energy.

At least with a near-teen one can hope that with age will come a bit of maturity (if not wisdom). With Obama, that ship sailed decades ago…

  6. I don’t get the “near teenager” thing. Just because we’re so infantilised in the West these days that we call 25 year olds “youth” doens’t mean that young kings can’t do well. The high kings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, and indeed their successor Caspian, did an excellent job after all.

One thing is, he has many decades ahead of him so he’ll want to preserve his country rather than have it annihilated in a war as a “last grand gesture” of a senile octagenerian. I salute our dear leader, and all who sail in him!
