  1. How about we do something about the market-distorting, GDP-killing 20% transaction tax that everyone pays on just about everything?

  2. Crickets chirping is the background sound in Portugal,

Ah. The few times I visited Portugal, the background sound was Americans moaning about the food and the coffee. Admittedly that was either Lisbon or Oeiras (just west of Lisbon.)

  3. OXFAM are liars, we know that.

But I must confess I’m not sure of their motive in this case.

Is it just about power and presence in the media??

Socialist concepts of “income justice”. Bashing banksters is affirming behaviour within the relevant social and intellectual circles these people operate in. The FTT is seen as revenge on bankers because of the clear failures in the investment banking culture that caused the crash.

That none of what they believe is actually true is completely irrelevant to the way they act and the solutions they demand. And, of course, that is generally applicable to the wide range of human behaviours. Not just metropolitan lefties.

  5. I’m quite staggered as to how idiotic the video shown is – truly if this is the best they can do, then they’re up the creek. For Spain with youth unemployment at over 50% and France, both of which face demographic oblivion due to emigration as a result of high taxation, I think the idea that the FTT would be some kind of panacea is something even Murphy would think laughable.

What the FTT, As Tim rightly points out, will do is provide an alternative source of revenue for the EU, allowing the corrupt gravy train to keep rolling for a few more years until its eventual collapse. That Oxfam has become a paid stooge for the European bureaucracy says much for the interface/nexus between the Public and ‘Third’ Sectors…..

Portugal. The 3800 hole golf course with a few towns scattered between the bunkers. Background noise is usually the sound of steel contacting plastic & the chink of glasses at every 19th.
Abandon hope all ye who venture past Huelva.

I’m afraid you underestimate the man’s genius.

For example, here (with comment from Timmy as it isn’t the LHTD’s own blog), and, on that pile of self-revering & self-referring odure here & on Twitter here.

There are many, many more. Including, I must warn you, video!

  8. Why are Oxfam campaigning about the FTT, anyway? In what way will it help starving Africans? What on earth does it have to do with Oxfam?

  9. When were kids and did something stupid like the FTT my grandmother called it cutting off our noses to spite our faces.
