  1. The inability to distinguish correlation from cause is remarkably widespread. I’ve even seen someone first acknowledge the distinction, and then argue that “in this case the correlation is so complete that it must prove the cause”.

    I don’t know whether the chap’s intellectual shortcomings were caused by nature or nurture.

  2. In a similar vein, I must warn everyone to avoid the village of Nayland in Suffolk as it must be an extremely dangerous place. At least sixteen of my ancestors died there.

  3. Isn’t this just a variation on the “becoming Pope makes you live longer” fallacy, or the more recent “Oscar winners live longer”?
