So who didn’t think Moscow Gold was involved?

Russia is secretly working with environmental groups campaigning against fracking in an attempt to maintain Europe’s dependence on energy imports from Moscow, the secretary-general of Nato has said.

Speaking at the Chatham House foreign affairs think-tank in London, Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Russia was mounting a sophisticated disinformation campaign aimed at undermining attempts to exploit alternative energy sources such as shale gas.

  1. the Greenpeace denial is great – “‘It is utterly wrong to suggest that we are Russian cat’s paws’ said Misha Obelinchskevitsky, Deputy First Secretary Of The General Soviet Committee Of The Glorious Workers’ Republic of Greenpeace”

  2. Greenpeace and other greenies are so easily led. It’s indicative that you can wind them up with just a few words on Twitter and they get carried away, led by their emotions and using twisted facts & falsehoods to back their cause. That they are willing to commit criminal acts to further their campaign also shows how they are led by emotion, not reality. Ends justify the means and all.

So they aren’t being controlled directly, just in very subtle ways like being fed half truths which they use to whip themselves into a frenzy about the end of the world is nigh.

  3. Must be quite nice for a lot of old Lefties these last few months. Firstly they are back to championing Russian military aggression and blaming it on western “provocation”, and now we hear Moscow is splashing the cash around again. It must feel just like the old times.

  4. and anonymous contributions to anti-fracking groups etc. Nobody should suggest that the greens have gone to Putin. It is so easy to be so much more subtle.

    So easy.

Fracking is the biggest single threat to Putin. Why do you think he is doing the deal with China?

Russia depends on gas money. Are there any consumer goods apart from caviar and vodka that you would buy from Russia?

His internal security and external power are in play. If somebody doesn’t believe this, they are naive.

  5. The Americans sent a guy around with a camera and asked a bunch of Leftie luvvies if they would star in a film about the evils of fracking. Of course they said yes. When told that it would be funded by Oil Sheiks, they said no problems. When told that it was intended to prolong American dependence on the Middle East’s oil supplies, didn’t bother them at all.

It is hanging time I think. Although Ed Begley;s brain is probably so fried by the weed at this point that it would be a mercy killing

  6. SMFS, shows how easily the lefties/greenies are led. It needn’t have been an oil sheik, if James O’Keefe had told them it was communists funding the film, they would still have said “no problem”. The lefties/greenies will do anything for the cause, even commit criminal acts – which is what makes Greenpeace/FoE terrorist organisations.

  7. On the other hand, why would you need to finance anything when you can just hand Geoffrey Lean his next completed article, which he is too lazy or too fucking dumb to research himself.

  8. Even the graun has realised their comments section is now overrun with Russian trolls. Why should this surprise anyone?

  9. Even the graun has realised their comments section is now overrun with Russian trolls. Why should this surprise anyone?

That people at the graun have realised something? I’m surprised!

  10. NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen on behalf of the European Union has mounted a sophisticated “disinformation campaign” aimed at undermining the Ukraine separatists attempts to exploit democracy.

  11. Even the graun has realised their comments section is now overrun with Russian trolls.

Not surprising if most of the commentators are Guardian employees.

  12. I am pro-fracking (and nuclear).

But which political party leader is most opposed to wind power, and has stated that he admires Putin?

  13. Luke – “But which political party leader is most opposed to wind power, and has stated that he admires Putin?”

I don’t know Luke. Does it matter? You think we cannot tell the difference between someone who loves Britain and admires certain aspects of Putin’s leadership and someone who hates Britain and wants to see it suffer so is willing to accept foreign money and support?

  14. Ironman, fair enough, I was mainly trying to be annoying, but Farage presumably does get paid for his contributions to Russian TV? Not that he’s the only one. There’s been a few contributors to Iranian TV I believe.

  15. Ironman, I take that back on reflection. Didn’t he tell Russian TV viewers to avoid European stocks just before they boomed? A genius seeking to destroy oligarch finances.

  16. I didn’t realize this was supposed to be a secret. People have been talking openly about it in Moscow for years already.
