Apparently the Labour Party is to release new figures about the gender pay gap today

Anyone know where they actually are, those new numbers?

Found them now and you can read about it at the ASI, here.

  1. According to this morning’s Tel, you can be sure that if they are from Ed Mibiland, they will be the new fucking figures.

  2. “Anyone know where they actually are, those new numbers?”
I’m going with ‘up Eds arse’ for ten here Tim 🙂

  3. Presumably Gloria has advance access to the figures, since the ONS haven’t released them yet.

it’s just the ASHE figures anyway. The last release (December 2013, which only covers 2012) already told us that young women slightly out-earn young men in full-time jobs.

For age group 22-29, the median man earns £10.22 per hour and the median woman £10.53. Even so, while the median young man earns less than the median young woman, the mean young man still earns more.

  4. “while the median young man earns less than the median young woman, the mean young man still earns more”: there are lines of evidence that suggest than men are more diverse than women. An obvious one is IQ measurements.

  5. The mean pay for men at all ages is higher, partly because they do more work (ONS data merely states that they work more hours but, despite a few counter-examples like my big sister, general observation is that men do a lot more work). A lot of receptionists get bored because they don’t have enough to do.
