  1. The truth is, of course, snails (& frogs’ legs for that matter) were in everyone’s cuisine before some of us got squeemish. (There used to be a Burnham-on-Crouch chippy did deep fried jambes de grenouilles. Maybe still does?)
    It’s not evidence of snail eaters, more the evidence of snails to be eaten. Which in Spain there still are, because Spanish still eat snails.

    On the other hand, if the Spanish were indeed eating France, that could explain the presence of Llivia. The bit they spat out.
