  1. Yeah, Simon showed this in The Wire. The biggest bastard amongst the cops was a black officer who regularly walloped the shit out of the street kids.

The Simon article is interesting — don’t agree much with the man on his politics, despite liking his work as a writer — the way US rozzers can nick you for fuck-all reason is a pisstake.

  2. It’s always the fault of white people. Everything. This is a very simple thing to believe because it requires no thought, only the willingness to detach yourself from reality. Once you are there you cannot lose any argument. How can you, when losing means accepting a contrary point of view?

  3. An article which is hilarious partly because the author is so carried away by his ignorant passion he is utterly blind to his own absurdity. Another follower of Richard Murphy I presume?

  4. It seems that Salon is going for the Crown Jewels of stupid on this subject. I particularly liked these:

    http://www.salon.com/2015/04/29/dear_white_facebook_friends_i_need_you_to_respect_what_black_america_is_feeling_right_now/

    And

    http://www.salon.com/2015/04/28/baltimores_violent_protesters_are_right_smashing_police_cars_is_a_legitimate_political_strategy/

Ghetto Shopping is not a tactic nor is it a strategy. It is just a continuation of the low key civil war America is fighting already.

  5. “Of course, Bill grew up in the middle-class suburbia of Levittown, where poverty and police abuse weren’t especially pressing problems.”

I’m not going to justify police brutality, but the reason it never happened to me is that I stayed out of trouble. These recent cases that caused riots involved people that most white liberals really wouldn’t want to live next door to. People who robbed shops or were carrying a switchblade.

“It is no secret that this misguided battle has resulted in skyrocketing incarceration rates across the country, the disproportionate majority being black males.”

OK, and they’re bad laws, but ultimately, you did possess or most likely dealt drugs. You could have not done that. You could have listened in school, maybe got a job instead of dealing weed and made something of yourself. That’s what millions of black people do and it’s insulting for white liberals to act like The Wire or Precious are representative of black people living in America.

  6. From the first of SMFS’s salon err, what should I call them, “rants” isn’t quite right, anyway …

Because people react to my wonderful, kind, intelligent father differently, depending on whether he’s wearing a suit or sweat pants.

Exactly the same applies to me – depending on whether I am in a suit, uniform or jeans and a hoodie. The feral thugs here in Weegieville are generally short, pasty-white guys, so people are making a sensible judgement. Until they spot how old I am. There are very few Neds my apparent age – they either reform, die or look like they are 90.

  7. To be fair, if you have a beef with the police for killing a guy, it’s less inappropriate to smash police stuff than loot arbitrarily.

  8. @Stigler

‘You could have listened in school’

Or as the members of Run DMC put it:

You should’ve gone to school, you could’ve learned a trade
But you laid in bed where the bums have laid
Now all the time you’re crying that you’re underpaid
It’s like that (what?) and that’s the way it is
    Huh!

One thing I know is that life is short
So listen up homeboy, give this a thought
The next time someone’s teaching why don’t you get taught?
It’s like that (what?) and that’s the way it is

  9. That’s the second Peter Simple reference in two days; yesterday someone mentioned Mrs. Dutt-Pauker.

And I thought it was only me who remembered the great man.

    Thanks Tim!

  10. Goddammit! Bill O’Reilly is NOT right wing. He is a socialist. He believes in strong, autocratic central government with the power to “Look out for the people.” He believes in intense regulation of the pharma industry, auto manufacturing, health care, etc.

    In a word, he’s a fascist.

  11. “There are various reasons for why America’s manufacturing industry has fallen from grace, but the two major ones are globalization and technological innovation.”

Government has made American industry non-competitive – that’s the reason.

“many companies choose to produce in developing countries where labor costs are significantly lower, owing in large part to scant protection for workers, who make a fraction of what it would take to live a decent middle-class lifestyle.”

So, Baltimore residents are insured protection in the workplace, and a decent lifestyle, and NO JOBS. Libtards kill the Goose That Lays the Golden Eggs. With riots in the streets, even more businesses will leave Baltimore. As the FNC pundits have said, Baltimore is reaping what it sewed. As Salon has shown, they won’t learn from it. It will be someone else’s fault.

  12. Bill O’Reilly blame unrest on liberals and black communities.

*Somebody’s out of touch. O’Reilly has come and flat out stated that this is a problem caused by too little police oversight.

He also simply pointed out that this lack of police oversight is happening in a city that is *completely* run by Democrats – all the aldermen and the mayor are Dems – and a good chunk of those guys are black.

He blames *liberals* and black politicians, but not ‘black communities’.

I got nothing for Hannity – don’t pay him the slightest bit of attention.

I’m not going to justify police brutality, but the reason it never happened to me is that I stayed out of trouble. These recent cases that caused riots involved people that most white liberals really wouldn’t want to live next door to. People who robbed shops or were carrying a switchblade.

And of course, the drug war and its erosion of civil liberties along with giving cops a ton of reasons to stop you – interactions they would not be able to initiate if the WoD didn’t exist – has nothing to do with this.

And having a switchblade is a problem to you? Half the states in this country its legal to carry one. Generally, anyplace that is putting restrictions on low-level weapons is a place where the political power structure views the populace as a threat and a resource to squeeze for as much money and power as possible.

Oh – and Gray didn’t have a switchblade – he had a folding knife on him when he was arrested. A knife that wasn’t illegal.

The stop should never have been made in the first place – there was no PC for the cops to run after him.

  14. Negative behaviours by persons of colour- to clarify, this being “negative” as defined unilaterally by the bearers of white privelege without equal community discussion of the definition with persons of colour community stakeholders- are the consequence of systemic discrimination of persons of colour by persons of privelege. The criticism of these outcomes by persons of privelege stands as proof of the continued discrimination against persons of colour inherent to our society as a means to avoid the checking of their privelege. God damn America!

  15. “Persons of privilege.” Yawn.

We have institutionalized character disorder amongst black radicals. Everything that happens to them is somebody else’s fault. They don’t need more money, they need psychiatry.

  16. Baltimore looks like going the same way as Detroit.

Soon you’ll be able to buy the house of your dreams, but the bank will look very carefully to check you can afford the insurance premiums.

  17. “White privelege” is a Nazi-grade lie.

EEOC wasn’t created for whites. The Attorney General said he wasn’t there for whites. No company has a white hiring quota. The fact is, the only privileged people in America ARE BLACKS.

  18. My uninformed guess is that not many Salon correspondents live in Baltimore. Or Detroit, for that matter.

Who bothers to learn from other people’s mistakes?

  19. bloke in france – “Baltimore looks like going the same way as Detroit. Soon you’ll be able to buy the house of your dreams, but the bank will look very carefully to check you can afford the insurance premiums.”

Actually Baltimore could go either way. It depends on how corrupt the Black Democrats who run it are. In Detroit, they were corrupt but they cared about racial conflict more. In a place like New York, they are really corrupt and so it is now a time for self enrichment, not for fighting.

What that means is that in New York, they have arrested enough young Black men to make the inner city safe for Gays and Yuppies. Who are moving into what really is prime real estate and pricing out Blacks. It is ironic to see Spike Lee ranting about how the new incomers are ruining the neighbourhood but he does. Pretty soon Harlem is likely to be a White area again. Blacks have already been mostly driven out of places like Compton in LA.

That process was going on in Baltimore. The heavy handed police force meant that around the harbour, a lot of businesses and young White people are moving in. If it continues then Blacks probably will be pushed out of the city altogether.

It is possible that one cause of the violence is that Blacks know this and want to keep scaring Whites away so they can continue to live in really nice parts of town.

  20. Surreptitious Evil – “Exactly the same applies to me – depending on whether I am in a suit, uniform or jeans and a hoodie. The feral thugs here in Weegieville are generally short, pasty-white guys, so people are making a sensible judgement. Until they spot how old I am.”

I am shocked. Just shocked. You are a beneficiary of unearned Middle Aged White Guy privilege. They don’t *know* that you are not a violent felon. In the same way they don’t *know* that a teen in a track suit is not a Crown lawyer with a distinguished service record. They are making unfair judgements based on looks that have nothing to do with you as an individual.

I am sure Ironman would agree that the only morally right way forward is to confront everyone who smiles at you, and insist that you could have a knife and mug them if you felt like it, and so they need to check their privilege and stop discriminating.

  21. Matthew L-

Which part of what I said is not standard current ideology on “diversity”?

  22. Ah, the denialist argument. Okay Matthew. Let me guess, there is “a wide range of views” and “a broad church”, right?

  23. As Jonah Goldberg, pbuh, observes, if you can blame the right, it’s the right’s fault. If you can’t, it’s America’s fault, or the system’s. What it never is, is the left’s fault.

  24. Just like Obamacare is the GOP’s fault cos if they hadn’t been shut out of the negotiations they could have fixed it, the inner cities are the GOP’s fault cos if they’d gotten elected there they could have fixed it.
