Well, lessee now

If even Michelle Obama can’t speak about race without being told to ‘quit whining’ then who can?

A rich woman, one of the 1% at least, soon to be one of the 0.1% as a result of her husband’s retirement career, in one of the richest countries on the planet. Someone who is, by any global or historical standard horrifyingly well off. And she’s complaining?

Yeah, she’s whining.

  1. It is not that she can’t talk about race, it is that she can’t talk about race. She has nothing sensible or interesting to say. Or even true. As with her recent comments about how growing up museums and art galleries were hostile to people who looked like her so that is why none of Da Bruddas ever go to the MoMo.

    Uh huh.

I am sure that not even Ironman would call it racism if I gave one or two other suggestions for why young Blacks do not go to Art Galleries. I could even suggest one or two things they could do to attract more – but Ironman would definitely call that racism.

    As for the article:

Black people being disproportionately and spuriously detained by police; candidates with “black”-sounding names being passed over for jobs; black families being trapped in cycles of poverty by red-lining and mass incarceration and forced to send their children to unsafe, impoverished schools – whatever your feelings about our current first lady, these are not opinions. They are facts. Acknowledging them should not be radical. They are simply true, and you either care about them or you don’t, and this is not up for discussion.

Blacks are disproportionately stopped by police. But they are not spuriously stopped. Blacks are stopped and charged in rough proportion to victims’ reports of the race of their attackers.

There is no evidence that candidates with Black sounding names are refused jobs. People with odd names may well be. But just try to apply for a Wall Street job when you’re called Billy Bob Retard.

Red lining may or may not have had an impact on Black communities but it certainly guaranteed Black families very cheap housing in some of the best locations in the US. Harlem is in Manhattan. In a few more years hardly a single Black family will be able to afford to live there. Well, Bill Cosby if he is not in jail. It is an incredible gift to the Black community.

How is crime a vicious cycle? Even if it is, it is hard to know how racists could make it any worse – except by refusing to punish people who, after all, mainly murder and rape other Black people.

And schools are unsafe and impoverished? Why would that be? Are White students coming in from the suburbs and mugging Black children? We know why mainly Black schools are unsafe and it ain’t the White people’s problem. It is not true that they are impoverished either. Baltimore spends more than any other school system in America – except New York. Mainly Federal funds.

Those claims are not facts. They are childish race baiting.

  2. She was accorded race privilege throughout her education, and what passed as her career.

  3. Why not rein in your prejudices for one minute and read the actual speech? It’s not a complaint, it’s an exhortation. Just as you’d expect in a Commencement Address.

If your not exhausted by that effort, you could also skim-read the history of Tuskagee University – wiki will do. It’s normal in this sort of speech to say something about the story of the institution.

  4. Social Justice Warrior – “Why not rein in your prejudices for one minute and read the actual speech? It’s not a complaint, it’s an exhortation. Just as you’d expect in a Commencement Address.”

No it isn’t. It is a complaint. The first half is about her petty problems. The second half is why they shouldn’t even try because people hate them coz they’s Black.

“If your not exhausted by that effort, you could also skim-read the history of Tuskagee University”

Ironic she stands at a Historically Black university and talks about educating the children of Blacks and Whites together. I notice she did mention the over-hyped Airmen. But made no mention of TU’s involvement in the syphilis experiment. Go figure.

  5. The most worrying part of Michelle’s speech is this:

So I immersed myself in the policy details. I worked with Congress on legislation, gave speeches to CEOs, military generals and Hollywood executives.

Who the fuck elected her? This is Cherie Blair Mk II. She’ll be running for president some day, mark my words.

  6. Tim Newman – “Who the fuck elected her? This is Cherie Blair Mk II. She’ll be running for president some day, mark my words.”

So the take-away message from the Democratic field this year is that girls should give up their law licence, marry some beta shlub, and free ride on their coat tails?

I am a paleo-conservative of the deepest possible strata imaginable and I approve of this message.

It makes for a good campaign slogan for Elizabeth Warren – she may be a fraud but at least she got where she is by lying, not lying on her back.

  7. The second half is why they shouldn’t even try because people hate them
    You can’t read, can you?
” I want to be very clear that those feelings are not an excuse to just throw up our hands and give up…you have got everything you need to do this…you’ve got the knowledge and the skills honed here on this hallowed campus. You’ve got families up in the stands who will support you every step of the way. And most of all, you’ve got yourselves — and all of the heart, and grit, and smarts that got you to this day….”

  8. Val Jarrett fitted her up with BHO: it was the only way a halfwhite Hawaiian could be given Afro-American credentials, by marrying them. No wonder Michelle feels entitled to spout. He wouldn’t be POTUS if he had married one of his white girlfriends.

  9. Social Justice Warrior – “You can’t read, can you?”

Well I did go to a Comp. But this is the rhetorical equivalent of saying “some of my best friends are”. The important thing is what comes after the but. So gives a long speech telling mainly Black students why they can’t succeed and then gives them some bullsh!t:

” I want to be very clear that those feelings are not an excuse to just throw up our hands and give up…you have got everything you need to do this…you’ve got the knowledge and the skills honed here on this hallowed campus. You’ve got families up in the stands who will support you every step of the way. And most of all, you’ve got yourselves — and all of the heart, and grit, and smarts that got you to this day….”

They don’t have families who will support them every step of the way. Some 80% of them come from broken homes and so they know that love and commitment, much less support, is highly contingent and cannot be relied on. They do not have the heart, the grit or the smarts to make it to a real university – and they must know that. Even with the massive affirmative action programmes in the US, they did not make it to the Ivy League.

They must be aware of the truth and realise that Michelle Obama knows it too. After all, she did not go to a Historically Black college did she?

  10. Blacks are disproportionately stopped by police. But they are not spuriously stopped. Blacks are stopped and charged in rough proportion to victims’ reports of the race of their attackers.

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if blacks were disproportionately stopped for victimless crimes. The War on Drugs rears its wicked head again.

  11. …gives a long speech telling mainly Black students why they can’t succeed…
You really can’t read. There’s not one sentence in the speech saying anything of the sort.

They don’t have families who will support them every step of the way.
So your real problem with her speech is that she didn’t tell the parents who were there that their children were doomed to failure because of their inadequate support. As you would have done.

  12. Ted S. – “It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if blacks were disproportionately stopped for victimless crimes. The War on Drugs rears its wicked head again.”

I have never met a victimless crime. I have never even heard of one. Nor do I think there is any reason to think that if they did exist, Blacks would be unduly punished for them. The American justice system is mildly racist – it does not punish crimes against Blacks as harshly as crimes against Whites. That is, they should be jailing more Blacks.

Social Justice Warrior – “You really can’t read. There’s not one sentence in the speech saying anything of the sort.”

Well, tells them about all the barriers Evil White people will put in their way to prevent them from succeeding. Same thing.

“So your real problem with her speech is that she didn’t tell the parents who were there that their children were doomed to failure because of their inadequate support. As you would have done.”

    Now who can’t read?

  13. I have never met a victimless crime. I have never even heard of one.

The War on Drugs. Prostitution. All sorts of bogus occupational licensing laws that are just barriers to entry lobbied for by established businesses.

Nor do I think there is any reason to think that if they did exist, Blacks would be unduly punished for them.

For many years there was the disparity in sentencing between posessing crack and possessing other forms of cocaine. But you apparently think it’s virtuous to encage people for trying to alter their brain chemistry in a way you disapprove of.

  14. Hey, give Mrs Obama some credit for talking a lot of sense mixed in with the carefully-written flattery to her audience. Of course anyone with a third brain cell will realise that as the heiress of a Chicago political dynasty she never had to suffer like the black airmen she talks about but the guys *did* suffer discrimination. There are books about how amazingly better the treatment of black GIs was in Britain than back home during WWII, despite them being foreign – and in those days Britain was prejudiced (I can remember my grandmother telling me how her views of blacks had been changed by the West Indian nurses who had looked after her in hospital – she took it for granted that I should have racial prejudice that she wished to eliminate/reduce even though I didn’t).

  15. @ Social Justice Warrior
    Good title
Now repeat after me “I renounce Gordon Brown and all his works …

  16. Ted S. – “For many years there was the disparity in sentencing between posessing crack and possessing other forms of cocaine. But you apparently think it’s virtuous to encage people for trying to alter their brain chemistry in a way you disapprove of.”

One of the reasons the murder rate has collapsed in the US is that the crack epidemic has waned. Because it was a very powerful drug and people were willing to kill over it. When it came to the US, Black politicians saw the damage it did and lobbied for tougher laws. Church Wrangel got the tougher laws he wanted. But it looks that was not a bad idea. Crack really did have a bigger impact on society. You don’t see many merchant bankers committing drive bys.

And yes, I do approve of jailing people who break the law.

  17. john77 – “give Mrs Obama some credit for talking a lot of sense mixed in with the carefully-written flattery to her audience.”

Where is the good sense? Where does she offer anything but empty platitudes? Telling them need to study hard? Well that is nice. And the nasty White Man is out to get them? Well, that is not so nice. She hardly touches on the main issues. She does not say “get and stay married” for instance. Children of married Black people have almost the same outcomes as White children. The dysfunction in the Black community is almost entirely a product of single mothers. She does not say “obey the law”. She gives no useful advice whatsoever.

“There are books about how amazingly better the treatment of black GIs was in Britain than back home during WWII, despite them being foreign – and in those days Britain was prejudiced”

I imagine a lot of that is because British people did not have to live with them. Had they stayed, or had British people moved to somewhere with a lot of Blacks, attitudes would have changed quickly. As it was, Britain was just grateful for any help it could get. After all, it is not as if Kenya or South Africa or Rhodesia were bastions of good feeling.

  18. @SJW

I know that I am being grossly unfair here by using FACTS, rather than feelings but here goes.

Baltimore has a population which is 65% Black. 90% of the homicide victims are black and 90% of the perpetrators are identified as black.

OF FUCKING COURSE we should therefore arrest and charge white people with homicide at a rate exactly the same as black people. That is, for every black person arrested, then one white person MUST be arrested.

Balitmore has an average truancy rate of 4,800 a day, 78% of which are black. Correct me if I am wrong but from my limited understanding of “Social Justice” blacks are more likely than a white pupil to skip school and if they aren’t in school then they ain’t learning.

Detroit has a population which is 83% Black. if the Police are going to stop speeding cars, for example, then they should stop a white driver for every black driver TO MAKE SURE THAT THINGS ARE FAIR AND BLACKS ARE NOT DISPROPORTIONATELY TARGETED.

Jackson, Mississippi is 86% Black. Exactly the same number of black people as whites MUST be targetter to “BE FAIR”.

78% of all black births are to single mothers and they are invariably on welfare. The State has replaced fathers as providers for the family and black males grow up without any male influence or guidance.

    THIS IS WHITEY’S FAULT, eh?

How would YOU tackle the perceived injustice?

Or, rather than think about it, what colour is the sky on the planet you come from?

  19. Phil B,

Your comment is addressed to SJW, but, for the life of me, I can’t see how it’s responding to anything he actually said. Are you hearing voices?

    SMFS,

You should get an agent and tell them to book you for some commencement addresses.
