Oh Dear Lord, Charles Pooter is alive and well

The Sage of Ely:

Yesterday’s Anti-Corruption Summit did not excite the world. It did not even excite readers of this blog: traffic yesterday was at about normal levels and right now those are at below Panama Papers levels. I made it onto the ITN News at Ten, but media coverage on the day was limited, and less than in the build up. The term damp squib feels appropriate: candidly, the event simply did not deliver, as predicted.

Because I only did one TV interview yesterday people are not taking offshore corruption seriously.

That’s really some ego there, some ego.

The UK re-announced it will require declaration of the beneficial ownership of companies owning property in the UK, which had already been the subject of a consultation in March. It did not say how this will be enforced. Forfeiture is not on the cards.

Emma Watson should lose her lovely house because she bought it in secret to make sure she’s not buried under willy pics and tributes from teenage boys?

The case for giving Companies House new resources will, surely, be made now?

And he’s also an ignorant fucking idiot. EU says that company registration must only be cost covering. Therefore, if you stick more “resources” into Companies House then you’ve got to lower the amount you charge people or limited liability. Which is, of course, entirely the opposite of what he argues on even days.

“Emma Watson should lose her lovely house because she bought it in secret to make sure she’s not buried under willy pics and tributes from teenage boys?”

And given the ICIJ has had their data (not raw data) published for several days now, all anyone has found has been Miss Taxidus Avoidicus and the Candy Brothers (who everyone knew anyway). So apart from all the politicos found in the first pass, it’s not really a big problem is it?

Re Emma Watson, it’s trivially easy for her to hide her online/paper location if she wants to. For reasons too boring to go into, I’m not registered on any utilities or the electoral roll where I live and my various bills (bank, mobile etc) go to a different address. I know a number of people who operate like this (and I know a number of people who in my view ought to operate like this but are very casual with their personal security). The trouble for someone like her is people know who she is and her neighbours and the local landlord and so on will blab. No amount of buying things via companies or trusts will affect that.

“I made it onto the ITN News at Ten, but media coverage on the day was limited”

Or, in other words

No journalist turned up to Green Park to interview me despite my specific tweet yesterday shown below telling journalists that I would be there at 1.30 and my standing around for over an hour waiting with a big sign saying “I’m Richard Murphy”.

“If any journalists want to interview me I will be around Green Park by 1.30 or so”

Mr Murphy has a valid point about Companies House. Its enforcement of the rules regarding reporting by companies (most of which create criminal offences, in theory at any rate) is quite outstandingly slack.

Why don’t you get on the News at Ten? You can then refute anything you like in public, to a wide audience.

Are you not able?

Or do you just enjoy a few people agreeing with you?

Fair play to countering claims made etc, but you are a media nobody. If your so right why aren’t you shouting it from the rooftops?

Ah, I get it. The “I don’t need to” argument.

That makes you far more smug. And every word you right smacks of cowardice.

I hope you get hanged sometime soon.

Why don’t you get on the pavement on Guernsey with your clapped out guitar?

Are you not able?

because you’re only important or have anything to say if the media comes knocking at your door.
As Those esteemed arbiters of all that is wise and good have blessed Murphy and confirmed his rightness so everyone else must just be wrong.
