Putin’s mates win Russian election, as foretold

Pro-Kremlin party wins big majority in Russian parliament

No, you misunderstood my prediction. I said that Putin’s mates would have a majority in the new parliament…….

    Your choice.”

    Mr Murphy, is that you?

  2. And one of Putin’s mates (or cheerleader, at least) has been elected to lead UKIP…

It’s internally consistent to believe that Putin is very good at maintaining power in Russia, yet not agree with any of his policies or actions.

NB I’ve no idea if the new UKIP leader is a supporter of his policies or, like Farage did, just sees a competent leader. But the “Diane James is a Putin cheerleader” stories I saw merely stem from her not being thrown off her train of thought to deny an obvious bit of BBC trolling.

    he will be missed.

  4. If you’re looking for a safe space, this isn’t it.

I actually find this to be a very safe space. Unlike most web sites the amount of tracking here is virtually non-existent. If the miscreants want to harm me using my personal information they won’t be getting it here.

I recognize there is a trade off for this safety. There is a far greater chance of my feelings being hurt. For some people this harm is far worse. My only question for the NCm’s of the world is if your emotional state is so delicate why do you go online at all?

Well, it was nice to you to come by. Good luck with, uhm . . . whatever the hell it is you do.

The thing is – he seems to want the *post* taken down by a moderator. Who would be the guy who put the post up in the first place.

  7. I didn’t know I could remove my own posts. The again I’ve never tried. Whatever errors I post need to stay up so they can be debunked. At most I can see a ‘This comment is hidden because it’s author is a tool, click here to see why’ type of censorship.

    th3re aer tim3$ id l8k3 too cor3ct mi spre11ing mist8ches

Someone faking an ID with obvious nonsense (rather than simply use a name of their own like anyone else)?

Tim deleted it (and on the Fuck Off thread as well), hence Tim’s “that’s the other one” (ie not the real one) as he deleted it?

I’m guessing Fakey then posted the “No Comment moderation”(?), and presumably meant what he said? Ie “leave this post up and I’ll bog off”? An offer and a half.

It’s difficult to follow after the deletion if you didn’t catch the original comment.

    Something like that, I think…

All a bit daft (from whoever it was), as Tim seems to be about as tolerant as it is possible for one to be, and with all sorts of stuff that gets written, as long as it’s played with a reasonably straight bat? That’s my take on it anyway..:)

  10. PF,

Thanks for info. I think ElReg have a reasonable system whereby removed posts are replaced with:

This post was removed by a moderator

and BH where they are snipped/removed with similar message.

Blogs/Forums that delete posts and any replies to that post leaving no trace deletion has occured are imho Stalinist.

    Tim,
Sorry for implying you are Stalinist.
I don’t comment on Forbes as I do not wish to register.
    Open comments are wonderful.

  11. Pcar

In fairness to Tim, I guess it very rarely happens? Therefore, unlike this one, other forums (with their moderators) have developed “processes”?

Yes, ditto, re not posting elsewhere due to registering etc.

  12. Ah, I thought when he said ‘post’ that he meant Tim’s post – in this format, here in the US ‘post’ would be the article or whatever we’re commenting on and our individual contributions would be ‘comments’.

So someone asking for the post to be removed is asking Tim to remove the article we’re commenting on. Which is demanding Tim remove the very article he decided was worth putting up in the first place.

    Anyhooo . . .

  13. vanity comments aside – Putin is the man.
    No PC etc.
What has the west got? Rule by ‘minority groups’. And it shows.
