Gunman ‘knew where to find nightclub victims’

Presumably, in the nightclub.

  1. So Much For Subtlety

The Times reporter was shocked, just shocked, to find that gambling was going on in Rick’s cafe.

I am just surprised he couldn’t find a Gay club with a lot more foreigners. You know, White foreigners. Not Lebanese and Indians. Presumably that was his intent.

  2. Well, according to a Google search, the Istanbul attack seems to have been well covered in the UK media. So presumably Fisk has a different definition of “not covered” from the rest of us.

  3. > the British media isn’t covering the story

Yep, they’ve covered it a bit. Nowhere near as much as if Brits had been amongst the victims, obviously.

On the other hand, there’s plenty of coverage of a police shooting on the M62. There are lots of interviews with emotional locals; but they’re surprisingly light on facts. Feels like they’re all chomping at the bit to tell the public what they know, but are being held back for (presumably legal) reasons.

You seen the latest Murphy posts yet – the top two are particularly entertaining. Apparently he has a monopoly on competence, and advocates doctors taking strike action to ‘expose government incompetence’. So we can legitimately say that he is advocating killing people off.

The second one on Airbnb, Uber etc and their ‘lack of tax’ is recovering old ground but is no less idiotic for doing so. Have a feeling you might get a couple of gems out of them if your Asian jaunts are not taking up too much time…

That’s his point. He thinks it’s racist if the British newspapers aren’t covering yet another Islamist atrocity in Turkey as much as they would had the victims been British or it took place in Britain. I wonder how well the Turkish media covered the Warrington bombing?

I also wonder (though not nearly enough to Google for it) whether Fisk complained that there wasn’t enough coverage of the islamic bombing of the Coptic Christian church in Cairo a couple of weeks ago? Are some dead foreigners more newsworthy than others in Fiskland?

  7. @AndrewM: coded phrases on the dead M62 guy – ‘you weren’t perfect’, ‘no angel, but didn’t deserve this’.

You can always count on your friends to ensure everyone says ‘Ah! A good shoot, then’ ..

  8. Bloke in Costa Rica

From the photos in the Daily Mail article I have to say I’m impressed with the grouping the police bod got when he shot the dindunuffin. If it had been the Yanks that car would have looked like the one at the end of Bonnie and Clyde.

  9. “According to Robert Fisk in today’s Independent, the British media isn’t covering the story because Brits are racist.”

    A shorter version could be

“According to Robert Fisk Brits are racist.”

  10. Bloke in North Dorset

“According to Robert Fisk in today’s Independent, the British media isn’t covering the story because Brits are racist.”

Is he still being paid to pour out his drivel?

The only man whose arguments were so weak that his name turned in to a verb that means to take apart an argument point by point, often in a quite humorous way. I suppose he kept large sections of the internet blogging and commenting community amused.

  11. Willie Sutton, the long time American bank robber was once asked by a reporter on why he kept on robbing banks. “That’s where the money was” was his answer.
