Umm, yeah Robbie, yeah

On CNN Thursday, UC Berkeley professor and former Democratic Secretary of Labor Robert Reich suggested the anti-Trump riots on campus were actually a right-wing plot to delegitimize liberals.

“I was there for part of last night, and I know what I saw and those people were not Berkeley students,” Reich said. “Those people were outside agitators. I have never seen them before.”

“There’s rumors that they actually were right-wingers. They were a part of a kind of group that was organized and ready to create the kind of tumult and danger you saw that forced the police to cancel the event,” Reich insisted. “So Donald Trump, when he says Berkeley doesn’t respect free speech rights, that’s a complete distortion of the truth.”

“You think it’s a strategy by [Milo Yiannopoulos] or right-wingers?” asked host Don Lemon.

“I wouldn’t bet against it,” Reich said. “I saw these people. They all looked very– almost paramilitary. They were not from the campus. I don’t want to say factually, but I’ve heard there was some relationship here between these people and the right-wing movement that is affiliated with Breitbart News.”

  1. It is quite shocking that nothing they say and nothing they believe no matter how outlandish is a surprise nowadays, where do they go from here?

  2. It depends on how much you believe in conspiracy theories. There’s only two groups of people might know the truth of this. The lefties close to the action. The mooted agents provocateurs.
And here’s the thing: Yes, one can well imagine there are people favourable to Trump who might well do exactly this. To discredit the demonstrators. These snowflake mobs are pretty flaky & it wouldn’t take much to set them off on one. Why count on luck? Knowing to most people, not rabid, Trumpageddonists, the Robert Reich winge is going to be received as above. “Well they would say that, wouldn’t they?”
The problem with conspiracies – because you do get genuine conspiracies & running ringers would be righteous if you had a mischievous mind – is keeping them conspiracies. Too many times, someone party to it lets the cat out the bag.
So we’ll never know for unless, will we?

  3. The violence fits with the character of the Ctrl-Left. Their agenda is control, whereas the Alt-Right is about freedom. Most of the time they exert control by using the state’s monopoly on violence. It’s not a huge leap to deploying violence directly.

There’s also the in-group/out-group psychology. In their eyes, Milo is literally worse than Hitler, so him and his supporters are more than fair game: beating them up is a noble and holy action.

  4. Occam’s razor; left wing shitheads don’t need anyone’s help in meting violent oppression.

Don’t assume a conspiracy when there is a simple explanation that doesn’t require one.

  5. I expect there *were* lots of outside agitators there. Professional left-wing protesters. Funded by Soros. As there are at most protests.

  6. bloke in spain – “There’s only two groups of people might know the truth of this. The lefties close to the action. The mooted agents provocateurs.”

And then there is California’s own Zombie Time. Who went. Who filmed. Who put the evidence on the internet. As she so often does.

So we do know actually. This was not the work of the Trumpkins. It was the work of the Soros-funded hard left. They wrote nice pamphlets even.

  7. Hey, remember five minutes ago? When all the lefties were loudly berating President Trump’s claim that lots of illegal immigrants voted in the election, an assertion which lefties said was outrageous and racist and dangerous and blah-de-blah because it was “unproven” and “unsubstantiated”?

    Yeah.

  8. Do you remember all of five minutes ago when the Left was crying about Fake News?

Where are the Fact Sherpas on this one?

Still, in fairness to the Left, they have been claiming false flag things for years. They claimed 9-11 was an inside job. That Lee Harvey Oswald wasn’t the literal card-carrying Communist he actually was. That the Kulaks were behind the failed harvests and the Wreckers behind every stupid economic decision Stalin made. All the way back to Marx claiming industrialisation made the workers poorer.

In fact if it wasn’t for their invincible ignorance of reality, would there be any Left at all?

  9. “I was there for part of last night, and I know what I saw and those people were not Berkeley students,” Reich said. “Those people were outside agitators. I have never seen them before.”

Reich knows all 40,000 students. He can recognize them even if they are wearing masks.

Or he was in on the deal.

  10. Reich’s comment reminds me of the story of a hayseed pitcher who swore he could strike out Ty Cobb. Hughie Jennings, the Detroit manager, gave him a tryout one day in batting practice, whereupon Cobb blasted four consecutive pitches over the right-field fence and scorched another against the wall on the fly.

When Jennings finally walked out to tell the hayseed his tryout was over, the hayseed looked at him and said, “Y’know Mr. Jennings, I don’t believe that feller is Ty Cobb.”

  11. I was at a dinner tonight.

Friends who live in millions pounds houses claimed they were anti Trump and socialists.

The left is more dangerous than it looks.

  12. If Reich is that confident, shouldn’t he have been calling for the UCB / Berkeley police to crack the skulls of these and future protesters? If he isn’t, I will; we shouldn’t tolerate these right wing rabble-rousers, and any amount of police violence towards them would be perfectly appropriate.

  13. Sorry Robert, but despite your protestations about your libtard fellow travellers being nothing but “good people with only the best intentions”, we know the left-wing rabble rousers of old and know full well that as well as the mothers and babies brigade and the vegan hippy brigade, there is also a very strong contingent of the anti-fascist brigade who look forward to nothing more than a good riot with looting and arson to follow.

The Soros funded BLM and other race baiters and “gibs me that”-ers just add to a sulfuric brew that makes living in certain places in the West very difficult.

Fortunately Soros is 86 and given that his brother died at 87, hopefully we won’t have to put up with him much longer. Sorry to say that, but the number of people who have died because of Soros’ meddling is significant.

Time for Hashem to call Soros to his bosom.

  14. John Galt: “the anti-fascist brigade” emulates fascism in its violence, intolerance of dissent, ambitions to control the public space because it is, um, fascist.

  15. Hopper – “If Reich is that confident, shouldn’t he have been calling for the UCB / Berkeley police to crack the skulls of these and future protesters?”

I am sure that Milo could arrange some volunteers, even in California, to stand outside his talks with AR-15s. Maybe even legal ones.

Surely we are all agreed that self defence against right wing extremists is perfectly acceptable?

  16. Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. Moderation in the protection of liberty is no virtue; extremism in the defense of freedom is no vice.

    Barry Goldwater – Wikiquote

There is no caveat about excluding violence by the left or the right…

  17. Why would anyone bother to attempt to discredit the sort of people who wear vaginas on their heads, scream hysterically at police and demand no-one has an opinion they don’t like?

    It’s just wasted effort.

  18. There’s a really simple way to show Reich is a liar: Arrest some protestors!

This will happen when they try to riot in a place where the cops aren’t told not to interfere. Then when they are fingerprinted, and arraigned, their faces (and juicy backgrounds) will be available for the world to see.

I’ll make a bet with Reich what their political allegiance will be.

They really keep digging these holes for themselves.

  19. The Purge is part of the answer.

Cut the “million pound house” middle/upper class leftists and their spawn of the taxpayers tit.

But for final victory the reality of socialist evil must be brought home. When it is just as “unacceptable” for someone to publicly declare that they are a socialist as it would be to declare that they are a fascist–that will be it for the evil of socialism.

  20. Looking at the video SMFS linked to….wow. A massively unusual amount of discretion by American police when they are being bombarded by potentially lethal fireworks.

The protestors should go to Baltimore or Ferguson and try their stuff. For educational reasons only, natch 🙂

  21. Nothing says ‘loony’ quite like a conspiracy theory when contradictory evidence is lying all around you in heaps.

  22. So am I the only one who would relish the opponents of the left actually learning from this long conflict & playing some of the left’s tactics back at it? For, whatever the ultimate rights & wrongs, when your enemy is triumphing on the battlefield he’s getting it right & you’re getting it wrong.

  23. If they had been right-wingers they’d have held a Robert-Reich-throwing competition. So they were lefties.

  24. “So am I the only one who would relish the opponents of the left actually learning from this long conflict & playing some of the left’s tactics back at it? ”

You’re assuming the ‘victory’ in this case (ensuring MY doesn’t speak on campus) is a stepping stone in the Long March. It isn’t. Its a strategic disaster for the Left, as are all the current things they are doing. Its akin to committing your entire army to a minor skirmish that could have been dealt with by a few hundred men. All its doing is waste ammunition, show your hand and provide your enemy with the ability to out flank you and destroy you.

Every Leftist meltdown that we are seeing daily is another tenth of a % point on the Rightist vote next time. All that has to happen is to keep quiet, keep up the provocation quietly (as I know Donald will, and Brexit will in the UK) and the Left will self destruct. It looks like they’re ‘winning’ because we’re hearing a lot of noise and not seeing the defending forces doing much. But they’re just waiting in the wings, out of harms way. When the time comes (elections) they will move with great force.

  25. Well, quite Jim. For far to long the left has been calling the shots & those opposing them have been content to be rolled over. And the left has had a tactic of provoking a situation & then, when there’s the inevitable response, playing the innocent party.
Now that seem’s to be changing. If you don’t roll over & actually stand up to them, they’ve nowhere to go. The more they escalate, the less, to outsiders, they look like the innocent party,. And the more you provoke, the more they escalate. The battle’s being taken onto their home ground.
At last people are realising you can’t fight something unless you’re actually prepared to fight

  26. BiS,

“The battle’s being taken onto their home ground.
At last people are realising you can’t fight something unless you’re actually prepared to fight”

Indeed. And Milo and others freely admit that are deliberately parking their tanks on their opponents’ lawns to provoke them.

I think Jim’s correct in a lot of his assessment, people are getting weary of the left’s tactics and if they keep it up for another 4 years they more or less guarantee Trump another victory.

Its been said before but worth repeating – one day “literally Hitler” will come along and nobody will be listening to them.

  27. “Its been said before but worth repeating – one day “literally Hitler” will come along and nobody will be listening to them.”

Thats what worries me. The Left are acting so moronically, in preventing anything being done about serious problems in society (immigration, social disintegration, Islamism) that eventually a real Hitler type figure will rise, because the people will demand to be protected, regardless of the consequences, or the means used.

Trump is no Hitler, more a blowhard, a paper tiger. He a 70 yo baby boomer, with the mental imprint of the last 70 years of peaceful social development, so no real Hard Man credentials, but he’s a straw in the wind, an indication of the direction of travel. The next Trump will be harder and more dictatorial, and there will be less qualms about his iron fist because people will want it to smite their oppressors. That is why the Left’s reaction to things like Trump and Brexit etc are so dangerous – where they are driving the electorates.

  28. “Trump is no Hitler, more a blowhard, a paper tiger. Uhhh . . . your reaction seems in line with theirs. What differentiates your blather?

  29. “your reaction seems in line with theirs. What differentiates your blather?”

What are you talking about? Electorates have been trying to get the political classes to address certain issues within society for decades now, but the Left (largely in control of the political and media establishment and also the State sector) will countenance no changes, and fight tooth and nail to keep things as they are, and indeed continue the move leftwards. Eventually someone like Trump comes along, taps into that electoral dissatisfaction and wins an election, with a mandate to change things. If the Left continue to stymie his policies via the sort of tactics we have seen so far, then the electorates will be forced further and further rightwards, not towards the libertarian right, but towards the fascist right, demanding someone who will ‘get things done, crack a few heads’ So eventually you get a Putin (or worse) rather than a Trump, which I for one find a frightening prospect.

Basically if the electorate vote for a Trump manifesto (which is pretty vanilla really by any objective assessment) but don’t get it because the Left fight a low level civil war against it, the electorate will vote for nastier and nastier manifestos until they get what they want. Trouble is they may get more than they bargained for along the way.

  30. Uhhh . . . your reaction seems in line with theirs. What differentiates your blather?

He’s not reacting, he’s pointing out the obvious. Which is that, if the left want a President who’s Literally Hitler, they’re going the right way about it. This kind of behaviour is exactly how you get the peaceful majority to support a leader who promises to make the violent scumbags go away by any means necessary.

Anyone who knows anything about history knows that is where this is going. Trump is the last chance to avoid a civil war in America, and the left are doing everything they can to stop him.

  31. I must admit this theory did cross my mind, as I just couldn’t understand how even the most retarded anti-Milo demonstrator would hand him all that free publicity on a plate.

I also don’t understand how apparently nobody can be bothered to try and work out the identity of these rioters, who apparently came prepared and weren’t the same as the peaceful protesters.

As for the “violence is ok against people I disagree with” on the left, how stupid can you get?!
