Nope, Owen doesn’t get it either

Labour will rip up Theresa May’s Brexit plan but respect the referendum result. The benefits of the single market and the customs union will be on the table. EU nationals will be protected from day one. Human beings won’t be bargaining chips. The great repeal bill will be scrapped; Labour will introduce a EU rights and protections bill instead. All workers’, consumers’ and environmental rights will be protected.

That repeal bill being, as we’ve noted, actually the enactment of all those protections into UK law….

  1. Where’s the analysis? I’m open to the custom’s union being a net benefit economically. But i’m not going to take Owen, or Jeremy’s word for it.

  2. ZaNu won’t be doing the proverbial jackshit unless they win.

Babyboy Owen should put his efforts there rather than noising abroad his fantasy fuckball league notions.

  3. Either they’re thick as shit and don’t get it or they hope that the public are thick as shit and they’re trying to pull one over on us. Neither approach speaks well of Labour and their fellow travellers…

  4. Swiss, Norwegians, Gibraltarians are not in the Customs Union. Sensible people by and large.
Turkey are in it and have no Commissioner or MEPs or say in the tariff rates – they’ve been mugged off ( probably had a cash bribe )

  5. Why the hell would anyone want to be in a customs union? Might be a price worth paying for some other gain, but it’s a bad thing in itself.
And the single market that actually exists is likewise a cost- how the EU managed to bugger up such a simple idea is a wonder, but they did it.

  6. Hasn’t the UK put recognition of the rights of EU citizens on the table as an easy starter, meaning any delay in confirming it is down to the EU reciprocating?

That one really is easy. So unless one side or other (or both) is being a twat, all necessary reassurances should be out there already. People who have moved their lives, in good faith, are not bargaining chips.

Clock’s ticking lads, do you really want to start over?

“Human beings won’t be bargaining chips. ”

Owen doesn’t get how unions work?

  8. “The benefits of the single market and the customs union will be on the table”

Labour can ask for these, but it is up to the EU to ‘put them on the table’, which they won’t do without Freedom of Movement as well.

  9. ‘All workers’, consumers’ and environmental rights will be protected.’

Conflicts exist. As rosscoe says, this is cynical at best.

  10. Owen should be ignored and have his pocket money stopped until he has gone down on vended knee and begged forgiveness from the people of Venezuela. Anyone who supported that regime has no right to tell the rest of us what to do or how to think.

    Indeed. Its a negotiating ploy.

If, as seems already to be the case, the EU can’t quickly & easily agree on this, then they clearly are not prepared to negotiate in good faith.

Helps to know this at the outset, so negotiating tactics can be honed accordingly.
