Umm, no, not really

Labour’s aimless stroll towards oblivion in Glasgow
Kevin McKenna
Years of bad management and lack of vision have left the SNP and Tories poised to expunge the left from north of the border

The SNP are better described as another flavour of the left……

  1. “Admittedly, Labour was faced with a spiritual dilemma: does it fight to retain the support of its traditional supporters who were being spooked by the Tory hard right’s Ukip rhetoric …”

They still don’t get it, do they? Their traditional supporters don’t have genuine concerns about immigration, they are gullible fools who’ve fallen for ‘Tory lies’, in their minds.

Until Labour acknowledge this, they are doomed. And deservedly so.

  2. They’re lefter than most real Labour. The Momentum and other nutters excluded, of course.

We’ve “Sheridan’s Sex Parties” (oh, sorry, the Scottish Socialist Party), which is also virulently pro-indy, but in a special orange-tinged way, for the hard (fnarr) left.

  3. I’m not sure the SNP are real socialists, deep down, in the way Corbyn is for example. I think they are socialists of convenience, because thats getting them more votes at the moment, partly because Scotland is a more Left wing country than England, and partly precisely because England is more right wing, and has a Tory government, therefore they have to be the opposite.

Nothing in the way they have governed in Scotland suggests they are that socialist really – they haven’t even used their tax raising powers for example, because deep down they know the reality, if they raise taxes in Scotland, people and wealth will move south. A true socialist wouldn’t accept that reality, because they would consider that people will want to pay higher taxes, and proceed regardless.

  4. Jim–a commissar for every child?

They’re fucking socialists alright–don’t doubt it.

Julia–it is always the way of Marxian arrogance and wickedness that they believe that any who don’t swallow their shite have been got at and brainwashed by somebody or something.

Cos their right see?. That’s just the way it is.

  5. Jim,

The SNiPpa Party know that raising tax rates would cost them votes, because at the moment they can whine on about taxes on ordinary people and favours done to the rich – while all the time spending money largely raised in England. There is no incentive for them to raise their own money. It is so obviously the case because they do have tax-raising powers.

  6. Jim,

“Nothing in the way they have governed in Scotland suggests they are that socialist really – they haven’t even used their tax raising powers for example, because deep down they know the reality, if they raise taxes in Scotland, people and wealth will move south. A true socialist would just confiscate their wealth before they left, assuming they were allowed to leave. They know they can’t do that as part of the UK, but if they leave and join the EU the German tax payer will fund their boondoggles, so no need to raise taxes.

  7. “Yet nowhere was this residual loyalty to the party more deeply rooted than among the third and fourth generations of Irish immigrants. In these communities, whose sons and daughters were now prominent in the law, media and local politics,”

And therein lies the clue: local politics was every bit as much a lucrative career as the law or media. Now it osn’t; get a proper job.

  8. Bloke in North Dorset – yes, the true socialists in Germany confiscated the wealth of the jews before they left – often enough at the point of leaving or on the journey.

  9. “if they leave and join the EU the German tax payer will fund their boondoggles, so no need to raise taxes.”

Yeh right. I’m sure the German taxpayers will be delighted to receive a bill for £10bn pa to keep Scotland in the manner to which its become accustomed, plus another £10bn pa to pay for the UK’s lost EU contributions.

The only money the Scots would get out of the Germans would come with the same conditions to those the Greeks got – raise taxes and cut spending, now!!!! The Scots think they’re suffering ‘austerity’ under the hated Tories, wait til they get the Teutonic version.

  10. Jim,

I agree, but the SNP are delusional, they believe there’s a special place for them in the EU. They’ll even have to join that economic suicide pact, the Euro.
