Oh, both kinds of politics here, we’ve got both left and left wing!

I spoke on the Today programme at about 6.48 this morning. The discussion focussed on John McDonnell and his tax pledge to 95% of British people, leaving just those earning more than £80,000 a year as the only apparent group facing tax increases post the election if Labour win.

I was debating with Faiza Shaheen of CLASS, who I both like and greatly respect,

  1. Given the limit, I am irresistibly reminded of that great Peter Sellers film, “I’M ALRIGHT JACK”.

    Laugh, I nearly started…

  2. Oh, so she’s another NEF alumna

“Dr Faiza Shaheen is Director of CLASS, joining in February 2016. Prior to this, Faiza was Head of Inequality and Sustainable Development at Save the Children UK, where she led on the development of a new global campaign on inequalities in child outcomes, and Senior Researcher on economic inequality at the New Economics Foundation (NEF).”

So here we have two people who used to work for the same MOAR TAXES thinktank debating with each other about how MOAR TAXES should be raised. “Balanced” my fat bottom

  3. “Inequality and Sustainable Development at Save the Children UK”

Won’t be sending them any donations then.

  4. Lets say the Tories had the policy of say reducing taxes to one flat rate of 20% on all income. What are the odds that a BBC ‘debate’ on that policy would consist of two people who thought it was far too left wing an idea and that the rate should be far lower?

  5. It isn’t a ‘debate’ when both participants hold identical views, it is a conversation, or even a chat.

  6. I’ve certainly complained to the BBC’s householder harassment goons.

Even had them admit they’ve no reason to bother me.

    They carried on bothering me.

  7. Mark Steyn said the BBC’s idea of a balanced panel is a moderately leftwing guest, a leftwing guest and a hard left one. Sometimes they cheekily throw in an ‘independent’ who turns out to have left wing views.

  8. So here we have two people who used to work for the same MOAR TAXES thinktank…

Did the spud work for nef at some point, or were you referring to someone else on the show? He remains a moron either way (but then, he’s changed the world, hasn’t he?), but it would reduce my opinion of the nef even further, if that’s possible.
