Rilly Polly?

This government staggers on, still trying to strike a costly and disreputable DUP deal, blackmailed by a party of Christian fundamentalists whose laws enforce childbirth on raped underage girls.

They do? Do we know the number of rapes of underage girls in NI? The number who go on to give birth as a result? And do the DUP come around to ensure pregnancy if the rape doesn’t take?

Sheesh.

Amazingly Polly, this is a democracy, one in which even religious bigots both have the vote and the right to representation. We are not in an ideological state, where only those with GoodThink are allowed to speak up.

Was ever a government in such chaos? Was ever a party less fit to govern? Was ever the country brought to such a state, by the wanton fanaticism of Tory ideologues, with their toxic combination of state-shrinkers and Europhobes?

Err, yes actually. ’76 to ’79 was worse, The Brown Terror as well……

  1. Oh, come on! Jezza’s pals in Hamas are well-known for their, um, stance on wymyn’s rights.

  2. “Christian fundamentalists”. Well, Polly must mean me as well then.

In that xae Polly, perhaps you’d like to point me to your article denouncing the growing use of Sharia Law. Perhaps you’d also like to show me where you raged against (and nut just mentioned it in passing, in effect sating “yes but”) the attitudues of large swathes of Islam and Muslim clerics to women, gay people and of course Jews. Perhaps you (and perhaps Kathy Newman) would like to point to the interview in which you challenged a Muslim politician on his/ her attitude to these same.

I dom’t have a any problem with Muslims and Muslim clerics in this country, indeed I.welcome those I have personally met. I do, however, feel entitled to respond to the double standards you exhibit, the near-naked desire to drivee and my fellow believers out of the public domain .

  3. Until you (and Kathy Nean) can show me those things Polly, I will regard you as a dirty little bigot

Unlike the previous Labour government and its local appendages, appointees and sympathisers, which merely actively covered up the rape, drugging and forced prostitution of 1,400 little girls in Rotherham alone, threatened to jail anybody who talked about it, and did jail Nick Griffin for speaking out.

But it’s OK, because Polly believes your daughter should be entitled to a free abortion after she’s gang-raped by kebab people.

  5. Only True Believers (fundamentalists you might call them) read Toynbee, so who cares. The old hag has been spouting this shit for decades.

  6. TIS:+100

Religious Bigots? She’s against religious bigots but only if they’re white and Christian. And helping Tories.

  7. I wonder when Owen Jones will go into a halal baker and ask for a cake to be baked with “I take it up the shitter” iced on the top and institute court action for discrimination when this is refused.

  8. “the wanton fanaticism of Tory ideologues, with their toxic combination of state-shrinkers and Europhobes?”

Where are these state shrinkers then? They don’t seem to be doing much of a job of it. The state is as big as its ever been. As for them being Europhobes, it wasn’t the Tory party that stood on a manifesto of leaving the EU, it was the electorate that voted for it.

  9. Mr Ecks – Thank you, and are the DUP even bigots these days? I dunno. Even Ian Paisley himself had mellowed considerably by the time he passed away, and Arlene Foster doesn’t make a convincing baddie unless you have a phobia of Desperate Dan.

I skimmed their manifesto, it’s mostly just sensible conservative stuff with an Ulster accent. If there was anything in there about burning drag queens in a fabulous wicker man I didn’t spot it.

They don’t like gay marriage: who cares? I doubt even gays care, unless they’re professional shills for Labour.

As Tim Farron found though, taking Christianity seriously makes you an eeeeevil fundamentalist in the eyes of the permanently offended class of peevish dweebs and fainting couch aficionados who wouldn’t dare criticise any other religion.

We’ve gone from people wondering aloud if a Catholic should be allowed to be PM to a defacto ban on Christians in government.

    What Would Henry VIII do?

  10. Theo–The polls have long been weaponised by the left so who knows.

Even a brief acquaintance with “true” socialism would soon disabuse most of the believers but it is too late by then.

The main danger of Jezza/McNasty is that once they got voted in they simply would never accept being voted out. Any more than Corbog’s hero’s Chavez and Maduro ever would.

Our fault is in allowing widespread leftist indoctrination throughout “education” and everywhere else.

  11. From the Owen Jones article:-

“It is going the same way as the postwar social democratic consensus established by Clement Attlee, which fell apart in the late 1970s. That model – public ownership, high taxes on the rich, strong trade unions – delivered an unparalleled increase in living standards and economic growth.”

How can he possibly believe that? That isn’t denial, that’s delusion, bordering on madness. It’s difficult for the sane to understand the Left.

  12. Is Polly dim enough to believe that DUP supporters are the only segment of the NI populace that disapproves of abortion and gay marriage? To answer my own question: clearly ‘yes’.

  13. Is Polly dim enough to believe that DUP supporters are the only segment of the NI populace that disapproves of abortion and gay marriage?

The penny will drop eventually. The left is indulging in an orgy of paddy-bashing and at some point it will bite them in the arse.

  14. “A YouGov poll shows 43% believe a truly socialist government would make life better.”

I took that survey and at the end complained that nowhere had they defined what “truely socialist” was, so everybody will have responded according to what they personally thought it meant. Mass slaughter of nonbeleivers or mass distribution of free puppies.

  15. @ Ian Reid
The 1951-64 *Conservative* government produced an unparelled (since the Victorian era) rise in living standards *for the poor*. SuperMac said “Some people have never had it so good” in response to some OAPs who told him that their pensions under SuperMac were higher than the guy’s earnings under Attlee. The rich were actually worse off, hence all the country houses torn down or sold off for a song, but Mac was more concerned with thje poor.

  16. I’m not clicking through to the Graun since it came out for IRA supporter Jeremy Corbyn in the election. Does Toynbee say what government she would prefer based on the election results? Given that Labour can’t form a government at all and agreements between the Tories and the other three parties are ideological non-starters?

My main comfort at the moment is how quickly Hollande’s socialist dream fell apart in France. it took a lot longer for the idiot post-war consensus to collapse. Little Owen is too dim to realise this, but once Corbyn’s high taxes drive business and investment away from this country, the mood will change.

That said, by that stage the damage will have been done. Plus people will be busily blaming Brexit for everything. And the sight of West Germany galloping past us in the 50’s through trimming the size of government doesn’t seem to have got people thinking back then…

  17. Purely by chance I’ve just used that last argument in a piece for publication tomorrow……

“The polls have long been weaponised by the left so who knows.”

If you mean the pollsters are part of some leftist conspiracy, I see no evidence for that. Leftists can commission polls designed to give them the propaganda they require, but then so can rightists. If anything, the polls showed a serious though intentional bias to the Tories in recent months.

  19. “My main comfort at the moment is how quickly Hollande’s socialist dream fell apart in France”

Because you can have socialism, or you can have an open economy, but not both. Socialism requires capital and people controls, because without them both just disappear out of the country overnight. The internationalisation of trade and the shrinking of the world means that its far easier now for people and their wealth to leave a country, and for socialism to collapse in a heap inside 6 months to a year. Socialism requires you to control both movement of the people and the money. Which given the Left have decided that the EU and free movement of everything is GOOD THING is going to take a bit of a U turn.

There’s also the fact that Western countries are far less autonomous than they were 70 years ago – imports of all major necessities are far higher than they used to be. Its no good nationalising everything so the ‘workers’ can be provided with a ration of coal and meat nowadays, it isn’t going to fly. The people voting for ‘socialism’ are expecting their current lifestyles to improve not dissolve catastrophically, which they would, rapidly, far more rapidly than in the past when nations were less interconnected to their neighbours.

Historically Socialism could take decades to destroy a country, in the modern world it could happen virtually overnight. Which is bad of course, but possibly better than decades of slow decline and people not realising whats causing it. Better it all collapses in the heap quickly, thats easier to recover from. Look at the Axis countries after WW2.

  20. Theo–

The Brexit and Trump polls told us we had no chance. The message being –“Your side have lost already –you might as well stay at home”.

Killery 96% certain to win? How in Hells name did they get that except by fiddling.

Last time they played the opposite angle–more successfully. 20 points up for fish face. Get everybody convinced the daft cow is a shoo-in. So she thinks she can scoop out the biggest, daftest load of policy-shite in decades and still waltz it. She IS just that stupid.

Meanwhile large numbers see her shite policies and the supposed walk-it lead and decide they can give her the finger or abstain by staying home.

A week or to before the vote ZaNu numbers start to creep up. Enough to encourage their crew to pull out all the stops but not enough to worry the “Punish Fish-face” voters/non-voters.

The result we know. Now they put Grandpa Death ahead by 4 points and his million mug March of Rage was to keep on the pressure. The Momentum so to speak.( The clue is in the name Theo). Except it didn’t.

None of the above will likely convince you or release you from your staid and conventional thought patterns but it was worth a try.

If there were any conspiracy by pollsters to mislead, it would be impossible to conceal. Occam’s Razor likewise suggests cock-up rather than conspiracy. Polling is just a very inexact and rather crap ‘science’.

  22. ‘If there were any conspiracy by pollsters to mislead, it would be impossible to conceal.’

Exactly. That’s why we can see them using polls to shape opinion, not measure it.
