In Europe again? Your wife must be very understanding (or wondering who the strange person in the house is at the weekend 🙂 ). Your dedication to the cause with all this travelling is to be applauded.

  1. Imagine living with the stupid, arrogant, opinionated, spud-faced fat cunt, constantly – fucking constantly – declaiming from de haut en bas about stuff he candidly knows fuck all about. If she’d lost it and gutted him with a bread knife, or lobbed a toaster in his bathwater, there’s not a jury in the country which would have convicted. They’d probably ask the judge to recommend a George Cross.

  2. “The Far East is good for that, try touring Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar.”

I can think of nothing worse!

Looks like Ritchie doesn’t want to visit the socialist paradises of the Far East which he espouses we all live under.

  3. That was a bit cruel. Especially as his wife probably does have a strange man in her house every weekend now …..

  4. If the former Mrs Murphy has any sort of common sense, I would imagine Murphy is under some sort of injunction not to be present within a substantial radius of her or her new property unless law officers are present.

Why broaden your mind when you know it all already. Goes to brussels and drinks carling no doubt

She once thought enough of Spud to marry him, so I think it fair to assume her taste in men runs outside the mainstream. That she would end up with someone strange in the house isn’t an issue… The issue is whether the new one could possibly be stranger than Spud himself.

  7. @DtP
We know he was married before, but was she?
The notion that she could think Spud an improvement is positively terrifying. That there could be someone worse than him, out there somewhere.

  8. I’m shocked that he’s turned his nose up at Caracas as well. With that sort of attitude he deserves to meet Owen Jones in Wales.

If the former Mrs Murphy has remarried then she probably doesn’t need an injunction since the median guy could take him out easily. I’m an undersized OAP and would welcome the excuse …

  10. Ritchie sold his Downham Market house last year for £445k and bought a much smaller house in Ely for £330k (data from Rightmove). No obvious reason for this hence speculation re a possible separation. Another possibility might be he needed to raise cash for school fees. Or maybe he is just crap at managing money?

  11. The Ashcroft settlement was in 2009 so it can’t be that. Do you know of a more recent settlement Tim?

  12. The charitable donation bit was back then. You can delay legal bills for a long time and that would have been the major cost anyway. Agreed the time span looks long though. We’re all just idly speculating tho’……perhaps a loan to pay the legal secured against the house and income wasn’t paying it down well enough?

  13. As I have an ‘inside man’ in the form of acquaintance with Murphy (the man who bought me ‘The Joy of Tax’ and ‘The Curajus State’) he has not mentioned anything about a split-up although it seems a logical conclusion.

Might not be something he wishes to mention in public, although the famous trip with his sons to a concentration camp in Germany (Who could forget the immortal line ‘people like me could have been here ‘or words to that effect which was of course music to the ears of his many foes of this parish) would seem to have been conducted on his own which makes it an eminently reasonable supposition.

His wife was a doctor who according to his musings had been off sick for a number of years on full pay I seem to recollect…….

  14. The Ely house purchase completed before the Downham Market one was sold, both mortgage free so unlikely to be a cash raising exercise unless he needed more cash to buy 2 homes.

Ely house in the name of Ritchie only, Downham Market house was in the name of both.

Videos since this one show no wedding ring. Videos before this where it can be seen, do have it.

The missus doesn’t seen to get mentioned these days, holidays seem to involve the kids only. Again speculation only.

I knew he was doing well, but £330k cash? Being a left-wing shill must be even more lucrative than I thought.

Would his wonderfully transparent accounts add up to him having a third of a million quid in cash? If not, where’s the money come from?

On a separate point, that isn’t releasing much equity – only £115k between the sale price of the old one and the purchase price of the new – which wouldn’t go far towards buying a house for the former Mrs Murphy if they had divorced.

Unless she’s the wealthy one and the Ely house is her payoff to him?

  16. Ritchie’s wife is a GP so her income would be similar to his. She is likely to have had a property of her own before they married. If they are separating then the £115k may represent a payment to her to equalise their capital.

What we know of Ritchie’s financial position is deeply unimpressive. He will have been earning a decent income (between £50-100k pa in today’s terms) since he qualified as an accountant over 30 years ago. He would have presumably got on to the housing ladder in London in the 1980’s when prices were cheap, but he only has a property worth £330k. Maybe he has a lot of money in ISA’s or shares or other assets. Or maybe he took his own advice and invested everything in green bonds!

  17. Sam, the equalisation makes sense, thank you. As to his lack of wealth, remember he has divorced before.

But I’m still surprised that he had a third a million quid in cash to buy the new house with before he sold the old one. Unless I suppose it was the proceeds of his second wife selling her pre-Murphy home.

  18. True, but wasn’t the first wife a partner in the accountancy firm, so they would have had similar incomes and presumably agreed a 50/50 split of capital. He might have had a few years without much income before the tax justice racket took off but the proceeds from the sale should have covered that.

  19. Well what could have taken the Prof to a pub near Waterloo the other day when Ely and his poly are both north of the river?

My guess is that he was sniffing after a bit of snippa and had arranged a tryst with someone who will have learned to be less trusting in future.

  20. “But I’m still surprised that he had a third a million quid in cash to buy the new house with before he sold the old one.”

If not cash – then mortgage, bridging loan (awaiting sale of t’other), or a bucket load of other possibilities?

    His business whatever.

Sure, but just paying him back in his own coin; he looks at public information about people and speculates wildly about their financial affairs.

(and if Noel Scoper’s digging in the Land Registry records is correct, there was no charge on the property so definitely not a mortgage and almost certainly not a bridging loan; I’ve not come across a bank that lends a third of a million quid unsecured)

  22. Rocco – you’re not directing Oberammergau 2020 are you? I’d be tempted, really I would.

Perhaps you might also consider giving us the von Knolle¹ family in Dachau as a modern paradigm for tax harmonisation across the EU?

    _______
    1) Knolle ist der German Wort for ‘tuber’.

  23. Once again, are you the real Jesus Christ? If not you should hang your head in shame at such dreadful behaviour. Not least because you are wasting my time

  24. OK so Tim is not married and can’t have kids. How the hell does he get so het up about issues he has no idea about?

    What a fraud.

  25. someone who calls himself Jesus Christ decides by completely ignoring the evidence on this blog that Tim Worstall is unmarried and without kids can calls him a fraud. That seems a bit rich!
