But I repeat myself

Those lyrics were primarily concerned with sex, drugs, drink and rock’n’roll.

I don’t know. I think AC DC’s Long Way To The Top has about the best rock and roll line ever. Several of them. In a row.

    Ridin’ down the highway
    Goin’ to a show
    Stop in all the byways
    Playin’ rock ‘n’ roll
    Gettin’ robbed
    Gettin’ stoned
    Gettin’ beat up
    Broken-boned
    Gettin’ had
    Gettin’ took
    I tell you, folks
    It’s harder than it looks

As the pretentious w@nkers at the Guardian wouldn’t say, it is like a haiku

It is impressive to think that their older brother was in, and wrote many of the hits for, the Easybeats. Whose lyrics in Friday on my Mind are similar to that really.

  2. So Much For Subtlety

Incidentally the Guardian suggests another article about Chuck D. Who, as I am sure everyone here knows, is the former lead rapper of the hugely influential Public Enemy.

He is clearly mellowing in his old age because he says two things that must be the least rock and roll ever:

My father passed in February 2016 …. I miss my dad. I miss the conversation, he kept me grounded when I was loose. I talked to him for 55 years. The silence is unbelievably powerful and the only way I can deal with it is by filling it by speaking powerfully. …. My oldest daughter is 29. She is clear about telling her father what to do. She is totally in charge, she challenges me on everything I’ve taught her, she is always saying: “Well, Dad, if the shoe was on the other foot…” Children are a good thing. Being a parent stretches your life into something you could never conceive it to be.

What a shame he never rapped about either of those. He will always be remembered for defending Farrakhan and telling the long-dead John Wayne something rather crude involving his mother.

IMO the greatest R&R line (not ac/dc though)- “she’s got legs……..she knows how to use them”.

I like ZZ Top [Zee Zee Top], their videos were superb compared to most other 80’s groups. Hilarious that the one with no beard was Mr Beard.
