We’ve been bonking so no good books have been written

A string of sex abuse allegations and financial crimes scandals have forced the Nobel Prize in literature to be postponed until next year.

That seems to be the gist of it. Because we, the judges, have been bonking no one out there has written any good books.

  1. As I understand it, it is worse than that – the husband of one of the judges has been bonking people with varying degrees of consent and a whole lot of judges have resigned in protest. Well declared they will be non-active as they can’t resign. Although whether out of envy, anger or spite is not clear.

So basically it is hard to agree on a book if so many of the judges will not sit in the same room together.

However I think we can say with some safety that good books may have been written recently, but they are no more likely to win the Nobel than they are to win the Booker.

  2. It’s not that the books haven’t been written, it’s that they haven’t been read.

  3. I have been storing a selection of my stools in a Tesco’s carrier bag which I intend to submit for appraisal by the judges of the Turner prize.

  4. BraveFart, make sure you submit your stools in an environmentally friendly, reusable carrier bag.

Isn’t it more “We’ve been too busy bonking to read any books”?

  6. The purpose of the Literature Nobel is not to identify a great body of work, but to signal the superior ‘intelligence’ of the judges.

That’s eligible for the Turder prize

  8. Note that the Nobel Prize in Literature isn’t for a book published in 2018. And it isn’t awarded to a book full stop. It’s awarded to an author, for their body of work.

Murphy would have won it this year, no doubt. In fact, he invented it.
