Won’t they shout at Elaine Page now

Elaine Paige, the singer and Radio 2 presenter, has encouraged young women to “just deal with it” if a man “puts his hand on your knee or your bum”, saying life would be dreary if they are discouraged from flirting.

Paige, 70, said she had “of course” been hit on by predatory men, joking she would be “really embarrassed” if she had managed to avoid it.

But while rape and sexual assault are “completely unacceptable”, she said, other behaviour should be treated with “perspective”.

Obviously. It’s rather how the species has reproduced down the generations, a reasonably important thing for a species to do. There has to be some socially acceptable manner of “Oi, Oi? Fancy a …?”

Whether that’s “can we have a conversation about the beneficial effects of Fairtrade” or “Would you like to come up and see my etchings” there does need to be that manner of asking the question. The problem with some of the modern complaints being that even the asking, in whatever terms, is deemed to be verboeten.

  1. Not only that, but…

“The broadcaster…said she was a firm believer in equal pay.

“Oh, I’m very hot on that,” she said. “If you’re doing the same job as a man, you should be paid the same.””

Poor cow won’t be able to do anything now without drawing the ire of the Twittermob.

The problem is that White males are inclined to White Knight. They give women whatever they demand. In this case we are close to the logical conclusion of an extreme end of the spectrum – a handful of mentally ill women shriek and wail but instead of offering them therapy, or at least telling them to shut the f**k up, we give them whatever they want.

TW has a point – what is the end point here? Imagine these mentally ill hysterics and ask yourself what asking for sex would look like in their ideal world – and whether you want any part of it. Then ask why the men in their world do not do this.

They are vastly more dangerous than the odd hand put where it does not belong.

  4. Predatory men seem to have all the fun. How do I become one?

Women have a special skill in being able to identify a man as predatory. They all look alike to me.

‘Paige, 70, said she had “of course” been hit on by predatory men, joking she would be “really embarrassed” if she had managed to avoid it.’

Why is ‘predatory’ in this sentence?

  5. “Predatory men seem to have all the fun. How do I become one?”

Easy. Try to shag as many women as possible, without giving a damn about their feelings or what *they* want out of the relationship, by using lying and deception, cheating and betrayal. Women are just targets, like blow-up sex dolls made out of meat, and every one you can trick into bed with some sweet-talk about ‘lurrve’ raises your score, demonstrating to your peer group how much of a ‘man’ you are.

*They* seem to think of it as ‘having all the fun’, certainly. 🙂

+1 imho women are now making success more difficult for themselves.

  7. NiV – “Easy. Try to shag as many women as possible, without giving a damn about their feelings or what *they* want out of the relationship”

Seems reasonable. There is no moral and legal reason to avoid this. That is the point of the sexual revolution.

“by using lying and deception, cheating and betrayal.”

But this is the catch. There is some grey areas about what is acceptable to persuade a girl into bed. Deception? Up to a point. “Sure I will respect you in the morning” and “Honesty, I swear, I will pull out” are not given under oath.

“Women are just targets, like blow-up sex dolls made out of meat, and every one you can trick into bed with some sweet-talk about ‘lurrve’ raises your score, demonstrating to your peer group how much of a ‘man’ you are.”

Well yes. That is exactly how you demonstrate how much of a man you are. Unlike, say, wearing a dress to celebrate women’s day, never getting sex from your wife and raising her bastards with some other man from a distant country.

In the end, if sex is not about procreation it is about treating women like blow up sex dolls.

  8. “The irony being, NiV, that that is exactly the sort of behaviour that attracts more women.”

    Of a certain sort, yes.

“Well yes. That is exactly how you demonstrate how much of a man you are.”

It’s how you demonstrate how scared you are of how other people might see you. It’s how you shield yourself from the risks of experiencing emotional pain.

“In the end, if sex is not about procreation it is about treating women like blow up sex dolls.”

It’s not about sex. It’s about stable family units, parenthood, responsibility, mutual protection, striving for prosperity, respect, and … quite often … love.

    It’s about being an adult.
