In which I talk about a Kardashian….

…intellectual property and The Great Tuberoso

We have an interesting little refutation of the strictures of the Senior Lecturer in International Political Economy at Islington Technical College here. For, as we all know, he insists that intellectual property means nothing. It’s just a manner of moving money around the world to dodge tax, it has no real economic import whatsoever. We should therefore simply ignore it all – for all purposes, not just tax if I’ve understood the drivel correctly.

Which is interesting, given that the world’s about to be youngest self-made billionaire, Kylie Jenner, seems to make her money from nothing at all except intellectual property:

  1. Not sure it’s the best idea to carry over the Ritchie-bashing to Contins, does make it look far less like a “news” site – obviously it is for takes on the news rather than original reportage but it does make it look more personal and less professional. Particularly if you are writing about the Kardashians, which (one hopes) ought to bringing fresh eyes without knowledge or interest in old feuds.

On the other hand you’re getting some big name blogs to link out to Ask Agatha – nicely done! Hope it is turning into views.

  2. That was really about just doing a celebrity piece. As a test, more than anything. And even I can’t write about the Kardashians straight. Needs to be something amusing there.

  3. ‘Intellectual’ is a bit of a stretch in her case, isn’t it?

Mind you, I have no telly, so I get an edited version of the Karkrashians via the online Mail‘s Sidebar of Shame.

  4. The Kardashians are not at all about only intangible assets. Each member of the clan seems to have enormous great fvcking norks

  5. Dear Mr Worstall

” … the world’s about to be youngest self-made billionaire, Kylie Jenner, seems to make her money from nothing at all except intellectual property:”

Is Miss Jenner about to become a billionaire at a tender age, or is she already a billionaire and doing a Benjamin Button?

    We should be told.

  6. IP is my day-job. And while people do sometimes use various structures for parking IP for tax optimisation purposes, to say that it’s the only point of it is very, very silly indeed. Particularly as IP rights massively pre-date any such tax-efficient structures…
