Umm, yes.

Apple has been criticised by feminists for designing iPhones which are ‘too big’ for the average female hand.

Other than being able to pick the thing up – not a claim being made I think? – what actually is the hand size restriction? And, if one exists, doesn’t that mean that the previous set of models were too small for the average male hand?

So good to see that all the other problems facing women are solved though.

Reading the story further though, they’re actually taking the whine seriously. Whut?

  1. It’s balls. I have a 6 Plus which I bought specifically for the larger screen. Admittedly, I rarely put it in a pocket because I rarely have pockets, it’s mostly in my bag.

But I’ve never had any issues with it, handling wise.

  2. Newsflash. World’s most highly valued company designs products that 50% of it’s market don’t want. Yep, it’s bollocks.

  3. As Apple have shown with the notch, they can make non rectilinear screens, so perhaps an hourglass shape with bust, waist and hips? Or would that be sexist too?

  4. I like the first sentence Tim. What intrigues me – if someone said ‘Apple criticised by fascists for having a black Iphone’ they would be treated with derision. Why are feminists, who discriminate against around 50% of the population (so arguably more than the fascists) not treated in similar vein? They should tell them, if being charitable, ‘we take on board what you are saying but we go ahead anyway’ or just tell them to piss off. What are they going to do in retaliation?

  5. And yet when the CEO of PepsiCo mused about how men and women eat crisps differently, and how her company might develop crisps that better suit women, she was lampooned for it.

There really is no winning with these people is there?

Of course, anyone who has ever been married will already know this to be the case.

They looked from Telegraph to Guardian, and from Guardian to Telegraph , and from Telegraph to Guardian again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

    (Apols to Orwell)

The Telegraph of old wouldn’t have gone within a mile of this story. The dumbing down to the lowest common denominator of click bait crap continues apace across the MSM.

  7. She told The Telegraph: “I genuinely have RSI from having an iPhone 6, and it went as soon as I switched to an iPhone SE.

So stick with the SE and stop fucking moaning you fucking moron.

    – “Among those taking to Twitter to condemn the advert, feminist activist Caroline Criado-Perez”

I can only admire her mental agility . . .

  9. “Caroline Criado Perez, the feminist campaigner said she developed repetitive strain injury from using a phone which was too big for her hand.”

More likely to be RSI from self-frigging I think given the probable lack of male interest.

Apple phones bit like quiche I think? Real men don’t like them?

  10. What is the mechanism by which these feminists explain Apple – masters at separating people from buckets of money – refusing to separate women who want smaller phones from great big wads of their cash?

  11. @MyBurningEars

It’s a fair cop – I remembered the pen furore, and took gratuitous advantage of her name turning up to cast completely unwarranted, unfair aspertions . . .

  12. Anyone who gets rsi from using their phone ought to think about using their phone less and getting a life.

Perhaps apple have made their phones bigger to piss off trump who allegedly has small hands, Sort of puerile thing sjw’s would do.

  13. Daniel Hill,

“What is the mechanism by which these feminists explain Apple – masters at separating people from buckets of money – refusing to separate women who want smaller phones from great big wads of their cash?”

You know, this might be a business mistake. My wife buys Samsung mini phones. She likes a smaller phone.

That said, Apple are toast. They mostly survive on bundled contracts. When a whole phone is good and £100-150, why bother with bundles? Just buy it outright and get a £10 sim only deal.

  14. @BOM4 One day Apple will fade, I can’t see that happening in the next five years or so. They are essentially a fashion brand, and as such it’s all about the brand.

  15. On the same basis I presume all previous non-smart phones were designed for the female market and were discriminatory against men – and most virtual keyboards, including those of Apple are discrimatory as the buttons are too small for the average male finger?

  16. Ian Reid,

If they’re a fashion brand, that’s very precarious. Fashion brands can rise and fall all the time. There’s more to Apple than that. They’re a premium brand and there’s also some inertia around them. They once owned nearly the whole smartphone market in the UK. That’s now less than half.

The problem for Apple is that the further their market share declines, the weaker the network effects. Developers will put more effort into Android and that makes the Apple offering worse and it’s a downward spiral.

  17. I have an iPhone 8. It’s exactly the same size as an iPhone 7 and almost the same size as a 6. A bit longer than a 5 but the same width. Almost exactly the same size and shape as a Samsung Galaxy S7. I don’t have big hands and it fits mine perfectly. So this woman is bleating about nothing.

  18. So women want larger screen size while at the same time wanting smaller phones?

I went shopping for a mobile phone recently, there are loads of phones smaller than the latest apple phone. Lots of choice for women who want smaller phones.
They just don’t get the large screen size at the same time.

  19. Missing the point there Martin.

She wants to have an Apple because otherwise how is she going to show that she’s better than the rest of us?

You can smell the arrogance through the Internet…

Didn’t this come up a few years ago? Has the magic roundabout of victimology come back around this quickly?

  20. Why not get caller-ID on your phone, and, if it’s Caroline Criado Perez, just don’t answer?

Did she call them, or did they call her?

“Slow day; let’s call Perez and see what silliness she’s got today.”
