  1. This is the killer quote from the article.

“That’s why the most important piece of EU news this month was not the Salzburg situation (entirely predictable) but the 12 September vote in the EU parliament on the rule of law in Hungary (much less so). For the first time, an EU institution which is hard to describe as “anti-democratic” (it is elected directly by its citizens) called for the activation of article 7 procedure against a member state’s government because of the way it has been disemboweling essential democratic institutions and rights.”

EU “democracy” trumps local wishes. It’s going to end well isn’t it. Eventually they’ll have to send in the EuroGendarmerie to crack some heads.

  2. @ian reid – yes the eu parliament that can’t initiate laws only vote on laws passed down to them from above and usually rubber stamped with minimal debate.

  3. “Is there a word, I wonder, to describe wishful thinking with the “thinking” element removed?”

    Socialism.

  4. This did make me laugh out loud – although in fairness to the author her screed is at least literate:

‘A shrewder approach would be to cast this existential battle for Europe’s soul as “democrats versus authoritarians”. At the end of the day, our common enemy is autocracy.’

The idea that the EU is representative of ‘democracy’ is one of the funniest things I have read even in the Grauniad.

  5. Stop talking about immigration.

And if people won’t stop we could pass a law, say a hate crime law, to make them stop… Oh.

  6. Immigration is good for society. We need more of it. That way we mix the races, and cut down on racism, if everyone is mixed race anyway.
And what is wrong with a nation having a bigger population. That means more people to create great sports teams and culture. Look at all those fine India, and Chinese, and Japenese reastraunts we all go to.

  7. If you want to prove people wrong then give them as much data as you can get your hands on. I am sure that won’t spit out anything awkward. Though the MAC report showed that non-EU immigration is a negative (and the non-EU analysis lumped together your american investment banker with everyone else)

  8. and the non-EU analysis lumped together your american investment banker with everyone else

Damned investment bankers, dragging down everyone else’s average.

  9. Nathalie, you say: “For all the headlines [like]… “EU dirty rats”, Brexit is essentially the British talking to themselves.

But your hypertext links to an article which isn’t the British talking to themselves. Its an EU commissioner saying: ‘you won’t be seeing those headlines when i bring media regulation onto my watch, no siree’.

So Nathalie, you see the conversation is two way though it’s not interminable, it ends with the British saying, “oookay, got go now ta ta”.

  10. @anon101
“If you want to prove people wrong then give them as much data as you can get your hands on. ”
Surely the UK government could provide anonymised data to show much people who got their NI cards at the age of 16 (people born or brought up) compare to those who got it later (immigration) cost the UK quite easily so we can compare it.
To prove if immigration costs the country money or not.

The Swedes could easily show what percentage of rapists have surname x,y,z to prove it is nothing to do with immigration.

    Why don’t they?

  11. Where, I wonder does this fucking ignorant privileged Frog bitch have actual experience of living?

    eg
    The banlieues of Paris
    Molenbeek in Brussels
    Greek or Italian islands

  12. Immigration is good for society. We need more of it.

Very free with that ‘we’ aren’t you Gerry?

That way we mix the races, and cut down on racism, if everyone is mixed race anyway.

Please point to the nation where this is happening?

That means more people to create great sports teams and culture. Look at all those fine India, and Chinese, and Japenese reastraunts we all go to.

Oh, this is satire. Silly me…

Not many Japanese restaurants in the UK; for some reason the Japanese prefer their homogenous, monocultural homeland….

  13. We had Indian and Chinese restaurants before we had mass immigration from India and Pakistan. Chinese immigration is not much of an issue at the moment. I wonder whether there is any correlation between ethnic numbers and restaurant ethnicity.

  14. The reason we have a rise in ‘populism’ is because of the refusal to discuss the issue in the past.

  15. Heraldo–fuck off mate.

If you are going to waste our time at least try. If we want boilerplate CM cockrot we get plenty of free quotes from the Gladrag.

  16. @ MC
Don’t you mean “not many UK restaurants in Japan”?
There are more than enough Japanese restaurants in the City of London offerring to give visitors food poisoning from raw fish.

  17. I’ve yet to see a Japanese person working in a sushi shop in the UK. It’s as if people are able to follow a recipe without actually needing to come from the same country as the dish.

For years the immigration rules allowed restaurants to import curry chefs because it was considered a “specialised” role. In 2015 (or thereabouts), an income threshold of £30k-ish was added to the criteria. Since most curry chefs don’t earn nearly that much, they can’t come over.

In short, if curry became Britain’s favourite dish, it’s because for years it relied on cheap immigrant labour. Going forwards, our favourite dishes will be the kinds of things that can be prepared in a factory by machine. It’ll still be healthier than the average greasy curry.

May I recommend a “Dummies” course on evolution that explains why races develop to be fit for their environment and why sickle cell anaemia is of no benefit to the Irish why pale skin that absorbs sunlight to generate vitamin D is a benefit?
Obviously you do not live in England where a critical (not-quite-catastrophic) shortage of housing was created by net immigration of foreign-born people of 3 million in ten years 2001-11.
Thirdly – you *really* do not know what you are talking about. Where immigrants are so few that they have to be treated as individuals, because they are not groups, racism just doesn’t happen. 60-odd years ago the Poles who couldn’t go home after the War because they had fought against Nazi Germany before “Barbarossa” were scattered around the UK and accepted as “one of us”, as were most of the (formerly German) jews who escaped in the 1930s – I grew up with some of them – OTOH my big sister suffered anti-English racism when we lived in Scotland.

  19. Immigration is good for society. We need more of it. That way we mix the races, and cut down on racism, if everyone is mixed race anyway.

Tim, you really should try to keep those under the age of ten from posting here. They already have a place to post their thoughts: Tax Research UK.

  20. This’ll fix it:

Take a pinch of white man
Wrap him up in black skin
Add a touch of blue blood
And a little bitty bit of red Indian boy
Oh like a Curly Latin kinkies
Oh Lordy, Lordy, mixed with yellow Chinkees, yeah
You know you lump it all together
And you got a recipe for a get along scene
    Oh what a beautiful dream
If it could only come true, you know, you know
What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough enough enough to take
The world and all its got And keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee coloured people by the score
    Rabbis and the friars
    Vishnus and the gurus
We got the Beatles or the Sun God
Well it really doesn’t matter what religion you choose
And be thankful little Mrs. Graceful
You know that livin’ could be tasteful
We should all get together in a lovin machine
I think I’ll call up the queen
It’ s only fair that she knows, you know, you know

  21. It’s simple miss nougat – how to stop populists? – stop doing unpopular things such as mass third world immigration. Easy isn’t it.

  22. @mc – got a nice japanese restaurant where i live – though doesn’t seem to be any japanese staff in it. It’s as Doc bud says Though as the japanese don’t advocate blowing up teenage girls at concerts or raping teenage girls as their hobby I wouldn’t mind if there was more immigration from japan. I suspect if we replaced all our vibrant diversity from the third world with chinese and japanese immigrants then the quality of life (and gdp) would rise exponentially.

  23. MC. If you do not think having a bigger population helps your nation win at sports. Explain why no small country has won a football World Cup since Uruguay since 1950.
Racism is evil. If we all mix then why would someone give a racist insult to their own race. Answer me that?
Plus, are you suggesting that when minority groups are banned from a land, that makes the land less racist. If so, there is no reasoning with you.

Are you also suggesting that English people should not be allowed to live in Scotland, as they would make up a large minority if they move there, and be subjected to racism?

  24. Gerardo you do not understand the hypocrisy of racists.
Racists think it is OK for their own people to move where ever they want. But that no one should be allowed to move to their homeland.
So an English racist would think that English people can live in any country on the globe. But that no Scots, or blacks, or Irish, or Chinese, or Asians, or Poles, or Romanians, should be allowed to move to England.
It makes no sense. But I have encountered that logic on many many occasions. And then when you complain they get angry and start frothing at the mouth.

  25. @gerardo – what a puerile argument – i don’t think the england team of 1966, argentina 1986 and spain 2010 were full of recent immigrants.
and @ filmferox – no one is against immigration per se – they are against the volume and quality of immigration. Importing millions from third world shitholes who are unemployable and make the country worse to live in by their behaviour and practices are what people disagree with. Rape gangs and terrorism are just the icing on the cake – have you seen the unemployment statistics for muslims and the horrendous rates of birth defects due to cultural practices in these communities? People welcome immigrants who make life better for the current inhabitants , not immigrants who make things worse for the natives.

  26. @ Gerardo Meza Jr
So you have no answer to my post!
Ask yourself what is the popularion of New Zealand! Yet the All Blacks are habitually the best rugby team in the world. How many Olympic medals have been won by India? How many have been won by Australia with a population usually less than 1% of India’s?
English people *are* subject to racism in Scotland.
You do not know what you are talking about

  27. Let’s face it, how many of us would give up all of England’s World Cup wins since 1970 in return for vastly lower immigration? I know I would.

  28. @rhoda klapp, September 26, 2018 at 2:43 pm

We had Indian and Chinese restaurants before we had mass immigration from India and Pakistan.

    +1

Also Italian & French long before we joined EEC/EU

  29. Heraldo and Filmfuck sound like the same dickhead talking to his/herself.

The childish, simplistic tone brings back memories of our dear departed chum Meiac –AKA Jesus Christ–in his slightly more well-structured moments.

Is that you Meiac? If it is fuck right off again elsewhere and when you get there fuck off some more. As DTP pointed out if you want to waste the time of simpletons Murph’s is the shithole for you.

  30. It’s a lie; there is no immigration. There is a full blown invasion. People are not coming to UK to become English; they are coming to take it over.

“Immigration is good for society. We need more of it.”

You are fvcking suicidal. Or an invader. A collaborator at the least.

  31. @ Dennis
May I point out your typo: you missed out “mental” before “age of ten”.

That would be giving him more credit than he has earned thus far.

  32. @ Gerardo Meza Jr – On the sports thing and small nations…

    Jamaica and Sprinters?

Swimming 2016 world champs – Lithuanian winning 100m free, Netherlands the 50m… You do not have to be massive to win at sports!

  33. @Gerado

Oh, go on then, just for fun. Can you explain why China haven’t won every football, rugby hockey and every other team sporting world cup. Ever. As they’ve always been the most populace nation on earth. Particularly under communism it would have looked so good. And been so easy, what with them having so many people.

    Were they deliberately losing?

  34. @Feralfox

I think any country should welcome anyone who adds to that country in a positive way.

Do you have much? In the way of material things? I only ask as I’m developing a theory that the more stupid a person is the less material things they have. It’s just a theory.

  35. Why are there so many numpties like JDPortes and his ilk dividing up the net benefits of immigration along an EU/non-EU line of partition?
And why are there so few who try to drill down into whether there are net benefits using a NRTPF-Yes/No line of partition?

Maybe the continued success of the USA has put the frighteners on every university arts and economics department in the rest of the world, and the lefties therein won’t dare analyse the dependency culture that has been imported, just landed off an SAS flight and is standing right in front of them with their suitcases by their side and their hands out.

  36. If we all mix then why would someone give a racist insult to their own race.

We don’t all mix. Mass immigration has not led to homogenised cafe-au-lait populations, but racial balkanisation and strife.

are you suggesting that when minority groups are banned from a land, that makes the land less racist.

WTF? I am suggesting nations which act to prevent mass immigration avoid the many many problems mass immigration causes. There are immigrants in Japan; it does not ban minority groups.

Are you also suggesting that English people should not be allowed to live in Scotland, as they would make up a large minority if they move there, and be subjected to racism?

You mean the England and Scotland which are parts of the single sovereign state known as the UK? No I am not. You fucking moron.

  37. @Gerardo Meza Jr.
“MC. If you do not think having a bigger population helps your nation win at sports. Explain why no small country has won a football World Cup since Uruguay since 1950.”
To be honest I would rather England never won the world cup again and we had no Grooming gangs.
BTW who beat England in the semi finals of the last world cup? Not a country with lots of immigration nor lots of people.

  38. “. For the first time, an EU institution which is hard to describe as “anti-democratic” ”

Actually it’s very easy to describe it as anti-democratic. It claims a democratic mandate despite being elected by no.Demos any fair observer would recognise as such. Hence ‘anti-democratic’.

  39. Ironman +1

Am I the only one reading this thread not convinced that “Gerardo Meza Junior.” (oh, come on!) was just pulling your respective plonkers?

It was just far too obvious – I can’t believe anyone fell for it!
