The list

Amusing that The Guardian does this. They do quote the judge:

He added: “Amongst the aggravating factors are that these girls were young when the abuse started, they were targeted because of their extreme vulnerability. They were threatened and intimidated and plied with drink and drugs often to insensibility and often in order to facilitate sexual abuse. These were planned offences by a large group of Asian men.”

Nothing else is said about race nor origin. Except the following:

The 20 men convicted were:

• Amere Singh Dhaliwal, 35, of Holly Road, Huddersfield – jailed for life, minimum of 18 years
• Irfan Ahmed, 34, of Yews Hill Road, Huddersfield – jailed for eight years
• Zahid Hassan, 29, of Bland Street, Huddersfield – jailed for 18 years
• Mohammed Kammer, 34, of West View, Huddersfield – jailed for 16 years
• Mohammed Rizwan Aslam, 31, of Huddersfield Road, Dewsbury – jailed for 15 years
• Abdul Rehman, 31, of Darnley Drive, Sheffield – jailed for 16 years
• Raj Singh Barsran, 34, of Caldercliffe Road, Huddersfield – jailed for 17 years
• Nahman Mohammed, 32, of West View, Huddersfield – jailed for 15 years
• Mansoor Akhtar, 27, of Blackmoorfoot Road, Huddersfield – jailed for eight years
• Wiqas Mahmud, 38, of Banks Crescent, Huddersfield – jailed for 15 years
• Nasarat Hussain, 30, of Upper Mount Street, Huddersfield – jailed for 17 years
• Sajid Hussain, 33, of Grasmere Road, Huddersfield – jailed for 17 years
• Mohammed Irfraz, 30, of North Road, Huddersfield – jailed for six years
• Faisal Nadeem, 32, of Carr Green Lane, Huddersfield – jailed for 12 years
• Mohammed Azeem, 33, of Wrose Road, Bradford – jailed for 18 years
• Manzoor Hassan, 38, of Bland Street, Huddersfield – jailed for five years
• Niaz Ahmed, 54, of Woodthorpe Terrace, Huddersfield – to be sentenced on 1 November
• Mohammed Imran Ibrar, 34, of Manchester Road, Huddersfield – to be sentenced on 1 November
• Asif Bashir, 33, of Thornton Lodge Road, Huddersfield – to be sentenced on 1 November
• Mohammed Akram, 33, of Springdale Street, Huddersfield – to be sentenced on 1 November

By the way, no, I’m not racist, not in the slightest. I am very much so culturalist. I would strongly suspect, for example, that I’ve more in common with Maro Itoje than I do with Freddy Michalak – and so on through the possible permutations.

  1. Two of them have the name “Singh” in their handles.

I thought that was a Sikh rather than a RoP name.

Can anybody with relevant knowledge clarify that point?

  3. Ecks – Singh isn’t exclusively Sikh (I know Hindus with that surname) but as Jonathan says, the orange turban is very Sikh.

  4. I had thought rather better of the Sikhs than that. Disappointed to hear such.

Still a bit of naïve left eh? Who’d a thunk it?

I suppose that there are rotten apples everywhere.

But it is odd as there is generally little love lost between the two groups as the RoP polished off the Sikh’s founder.

  5. Note also that Amere Singh Dhaliwal received a life sentence, which implies an involvement worse than the others – perhaps leadership / organisation.

  6. Sajid Javid has been rebuked by MPs and human rights campaigners for tweeting about “Asian paedophiles”.

The Labour MP David Lammy said: “Sajid Javid has brought a great office of state into disrepute. By singling out ‘Asians’ he not only panders to the far right, but increases the risk of violence and abuse against minorities across the country.

Diane Abbott, the shadow home secretary, said: “These are horrific crimes. As the judge said many of these girls will never recover from the abuse they have suffered. Falling support for survivors is inexcusable. Attempts by authorities and now it seems the government to attribute these crimes to one ethnic group does nothing to support these vulnerable women in the way of social services, mental health services, or the resources needed by the police to bring all sexual predators to justice.

What a bvnch of unspeakable cvnts

  7. @Mr Ecks: the Sikh community has been outraged. But by the perps, not the actions of the state in halting their sordid activities. They’ve disowned them, and haven’t uttered a peep about ‘Sikhphobia’.

    So still quite a difference.

  8. BraveFart – it’s definitely not “Asians”, though I appreciate Mr Javid at least acknowledging there’s a problem.

  9. Amere Singh Dhaliwal was indeed the leader. The orange headgear he wears signifies that he is a Sikh, however it was reported that he converted from Islam after he was caught. (Why, I can’t guess. Muslims are not famed for their acceptance of apostates. To mix in another religion; I guess karma will get him…)

  10. however it was reported that he converted from Islam after he was caught

That’s going to make him popular in prison.

  11. Glad to hear the sikh community has disowned them – always thought they were a decent bunch of people. As for muslims- shit stains on the underpants of humanity.

  12. I’m curious about Javid.

Given he starts from Islam, and he now says that Islam plays no part in his family life (if I’ve understood t correctly – his wife is Christian and his kids are being brought up in his wife’s faith), do his peaceful buddies now condemn him as apostate?

If so, it appears to be low key, given the usual noise when it comes to apostacy? Does anyone know, or have I misunderstood it?

  13. “They also regard our freedom of speech as less important than their religion”

    Catholics, too.

Saturday’s disorder was also condemned by the Rep, but the play itself came under fire from Birmingham’s Roman Catholic Archbishop, who described it as offensive to all faiths.

In a statement, the Most Rev Vincent Nichols said: “In recent weeks the Sikh community has acted in a reasonable and measured way in representing their deep concerns to the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. I regret that the Repertory Theatre, in the interests of the common good, has not been more responsive.

“Such a deliberate, even if fictional, violation of the sacred place of the Sikh religion demeans the sacred places of every religion.”

Catholics eh? Now I wonder why that could be…?

  14. “Catholics, too.”

NiV, you confuse words with actions. It’s OK to criticise other opinions (free speech), it’s OK to suggest people with opinions keep quiet and not offend other people (free speech). It’s not OK for those offended by opinions to use threats or violence to stop those opinions being expressed (oppression).

The Catholic priest’s behaviour was consistent with respecting free speech. The Sikh mob’s behaviour wasn’t.

  15. Still can’t see any Chinese or Japanese names there, or even Korean, Thai or Vietnamese.

Perhaps a third of the World’s population might wonder why the BBC smears them by association?

  16. “NiV, you confuse words with actions.”

I thought the issue was whether ‘freedom of speech’ or ‘respect for religion’ was considered most important? The question of the means used to enforce that decision is a separate matter.

“In recent weeks the Sikh community has acted in a reasonable and measured way in representing their deep concerns to the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.”

    ‘Respecting’ free speech?

“Perhaps a third of the World’s population might wonder why the BBC smears them by association?”

Because they understand simple logic, and don’t fall for the association fallacy?

The rapists were also described as “men”. Do you suppose half the world population were wondering why they were being “smeared by association”?

  17. Javed is definitely wrong to pin this on ‘Asians’, but not for the reasons that scum Lammy and Abbott claim – they don’t care about the accidental libel of Thais, they want to curry favour with the many goatfuckers in their own constituencies.

So if FatMatt is correct, the ‘Sikhs’ convicted are actually Muslims seeking to draw fire from their own vile and worthless community?

  18. Bloke in Germany in Japan

One also wonders how much deeper the graun would have buried this were it not for Tommy rather publicly ensuring the mainstream media had no choice but to report it prominently once the restrictions were lifted.

    Zackly.

The Guardian ran literally dozens of stories and opinion pieces about how Brett Kavanaugh didn’t rape a woman in 1982 (or was it 1985?), some 40 years and 3,000 miles away.

But this got the “local news” treatment, on a similar level of priority to controversial roadwork plans.

In other news, the Guardian would like you to be outraged at President Trump laughing about a Guardian journalist being mildly roughed up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  20. @MC “…they don’t care about the accidental libel of Thais, they want to curry favour…”

    Thai green curry favour?

  21. Come on, haven’t Muslims built the very fabric of your nation and strengthened the core of your democracy, like they did here in ‘Merica?

  22. “I am very much so culturalist.”

Same. I’ll have a few more sikhs and hindus. I’ll let Syrian refugees in who are orphans under the age of 2. Young enough that there’s almost zero culture imposed on them and we can get some Thatcherites to adopt them.

  23. “I’m not racist, not in the slightest”. Bah humbug. Everyone is in some meaning of the word.

Anyway, as for offending chinks, nips, etc: maybe the judge should have said “South Asian men”.

  24. @Steve

    A very fucking good point.

  25. Btw where’s Ironman? He normally likes to pop in and uobraid people for racism for noticing that so many of these northern rapists aren’t called Arthur Epplethwaite.

  26. But this got the “local news” treatment, on a similar level of priority to controversial roadwork plans.

Similarly, when Stormy Daniels had her case against Trump thrown out by the judge the BBC relegated it to a minor story. But her *bringing* the case made headline news for a day.

  27. “He normally likes to pop in and uobraid people for racism for noticing that so many of these northern rapists aren’t called Arthur Epplethwaite.”

Was that the Very Reverend Arthur Epplethwaite?

  28. There might well be a campaign afoot by Muslims to smear Sikhism by taking on the religion (many may have actually historically been Sikhs) and therefore smear Sikhs by association.

I’ll bet a fair amount a lot of those “Sikhs” are really Muslims.

  29. Off topic, but this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-45926322

Some people are absolute cockwombles. Straight actors shouldn’t play LGBTQWERTYUIP characters? Do they understand what acting is, it’s make believe. But is too god damn important for make believe? It’s the same ass-hattery that behind iconoclasm destroying loads of perfectly good art. The scary thing is that due to the interwebs and modern technology, fools can find each other at the speed of light rather than having to wonder whether being a bell-end is worth the opportunity cost of having to down tools for at least a day and travel to the nearest major town and somehow communicate to other potential eejits what kind of stupidity they have on offer and might be willing to share, possibly by writing a pamphlet they’d have to pay to publish, if they were even literate.

    (Had a few tonight).

  30. “I thought the issue was whether ‘freedom of speech’ or ‘respect for religion’ was considered most important? The question of the means used to enforce that decision is a separate matter.”

It’s only a separate matter in your peculiarly anal view of the world.

I am, as I suspect are most people who regard freedom of speech as important, perfectly happy with people saying that their religion is more important than someone’s right to criticise it – because that in itself is free speech. It’s when they use force to silence critics – that’s what counts.

  31. @ NiV
Next time you want to smear someone, try checking what the title means outside your target area. Even Ian Paisley would know better than to try *that* smear.

  32. “Next time you want to smear someone, try checking what the title means outside your target area.”

    Why? Nobody else does!

    “Right Reverend”, then. 🙂

  33. If you want to see the very latest nuttiness in Leftist extremism, Newsbeat or “Teen Vogue” and similar outlets are a must.

  34. Ah yes… Teen Vogue… the outlet that published an article advocating anal sex for teens…..

    Evil bastards…..

  36. They might have other things in common

    Occupation
    Working hours (night time work?)
    Marital status
    Race
    Education levels
    Age (all in their 30s)
    Gender
    Religion

They don’t normally do a cohort analysis, do they?
