So he’s an idiot then

In normal times and in all good faith, politicians at a general election present a manifesto they believe will improve people’s lives. Politicians of a like mind will largely agree with that manifesto, believing it to be better than the alternative. In government, with all good intentions, the manifesto is implemented – maybe not in its entirety and with compromises being made. That is politics, in normal times.

But these are not normal times. Brexit is different. As an MP who campaigned for Remain during the EU referendum in June 2016, I do not believe I can, in all good faith and with all good intentions, tell my electorate that I have changed my mind. First, my constituents won’t believe me. And second, I did not enter politics to knowingly make my constituents poorer. This presents a moral dilemma for Remain-supporting MPs, especially those whose constituents voted to leave.

We now know more about what leaving means than we did two years ago. A £40bn divorce bill.

There is no divorce bill. The entire claim is that this is what we owe already. We’ve got to pay this whether we stay or leave.

Or he’s lying of course but no politician would ever do that, would they?

  1. ZaNU shite presenting an absolutely false and deceitful load of Project Fear bollocks. And emptying his bowels on his Leave supporting constituents.

  2. In government, with all good intentions, the manifesto is implemented – maybe not in its entirety and with compromises being made

I guarantee Phil never said that about conservative governments, ever.

  3. Because he did not agree with the key aspect of the manifesto he was elected on, he can legitimately agitate for the contrary position? I hope the good voters of Sedgefield are sympathetic to this line of argument.

  4. How much, arrived at by what calculation, paid for over what period? Without those tiny details the figure is useless.

  5. We The People aren’t asking him to change his mind, just do as We The People have bloody told him what to do – as he asked us.

If he doesn’t want to do, well he knows the Equadorian Embassy motto.

  6. jgh +1

It was a referendum. It was not so different to an independence referendum. The same issues and principles apply.

“Stupid or lying”. As so often – in the case of MPs, it usually lying.

  7. ‘… politicians at a general election present a manifesto they believe will improve people’s lives.’

How can they know what will improve the lives of people of whom they have absolutely no knowledge and never will?

So let’s rewrite that… ‘ politicians at a general election present a manifesto they believe will improve their own lives.’

    And Brexit was about…

Do you want to continue as a slave?
    or
    Do you want freedom?

‘We now know more about what leaving means…’

What more is there to know?

  8. The entire establishment has a vested interest in Remain.

politicians who see a potential career in the EC and big business who enjoy regulations that prevent new comers from competing with them.

Its not even giant businesses, often just medium sized established companies. I have a good friend(American) whose family business imports safety footwear to the EU. I was contracted to assist with the certifications. I said I Bet all this bullshit pisses him off. He said it didn’t because he’s established and any start up can’t compete. He’s wealthy but no massive multi national corp, just a private family business. Can’t blame him, he’s not British.

The media never calls out these Remainers on their personal interests.

  9. The biggest fucking lie is that we “know” that leaving will be a disaster.

Your biased prediction isn’t a fucking fact you obnoxious cunts.

  10. ‘In normal times and in all good faith, politicians at a general election present a manifesto they believe will improve people’s lives.’

This is a declaration of fascist orthodoxy. Government should stay the fvck out of people’s lives.

So parties compete over “here are our excuses for interfering with – and ultimately screwing up – your lives.” A manifesto should say how the party is going to REDUCE government’s interference with people’s lives.

“In normal times and in all good faith, politicians at a general election present a manifesto they believe will improve people’s lives, at the expense of other people. The art is in balancing votes gained from people ‘helped’ with votes lost from the people paying.”

    FIFY

Note that this is a cold, mathematical calculation. Wilson, and the rest of the Left, couldn’t fvcking care less about improving people’s lives. It is gamesmanship, with the prize of gaining power. The Left doesn’t care about people; they use other people’s caring as a tool against the people who care.

You represent them, I’m pretty sure they don’t expect you to personally agree with everything they want or need, doesn’t mean you can’t still do your job

This is just the arrogance that has been layered throughout the remain campaign that democracy doesn’t mean anything anymore

I don’t mind a sommelier suggesting a different wine, but I don’t expect him to fetch his bottle after I’ve told him not to. He might think I’ve made a bad choice, but it is my choice.
