Rather fun

To be able to make this point again.

It is true that I don’t – as you may well have realised – share Owen Jones’s vision of what the good society would be. But if he wants us to be more Nordic, it really does mean we should become entirely the opposite of everything Jones urges — radically free market, capitalist and near entirely fiscally devolved societies. I’d still object to the tax rates but bring on the rest, quite frankly.

The value of gradually acquiring new places to write, leaving old ones behind perhaps, is that the few greatest hits as logical or propaganda points can be rolled out again in new clothes and guises. They also develop a little. It is, for example, only recently that I found out this:

However that misses the point that underneath those taxes, the Scandinavians are more free market, even more capitalist, than we are or even the US is. Their corporations are indeed more efficient – because they are deliberately structured to not just emphasise but exalt the shareholder interest.

Isn’t it odd that the literature does indeed state that the Nordic corporate board system is “most efficient” while no one at all recommends that we should all be using it?

  1. These days, the high-tax redistribution set-up is far from the first thing that comes to mind when Sweden is mentioned.

  2. Anyone who had dealt with a Swedish corporation will tell you how rapacious and downright unscrupulous they are.
I was stiffed several times, invarious guises. Each time i told my bosses “Don’t trust these guys!” Each time the result was the same.

People want fascism. They want a government empowered to do what they think should be done. It doesn’t occur to them that a government empowered to do what they think is right, is thus empowered to do whatever it wants to.

If it can tell you that cars must have seat belts, it is empowered to ban 100W light bulbs. Politics devolves to arguing over what should be done, not whether government has the authority to do it. So the U.S. takes money from some citizens and gives it to others.

BWTM – it’s worse than we thought.

‘A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.’

Tyler didn’t know about credit. Not only has the treasury been raided, but the government has borrowed another $20,000,000,000,000 to give away.

To no effect on the people it was supposed to help. The “poor” still exist exactly as they did 50 years ago.

  4. There is Scandinavia in Reality, and there is the one in the Left’s collective head. It is a Shangri-La of all the nice Progressive things they want, and none turned out to be colossal fuck ups.

You couldn’t shift this perception with an atom bomb, so don’t bother.
