Odd

The rehabilitation of Neanderthals has taken another step forward after scientists discovered they were no more violent than modern humans and could probably hunt just as well.

I’ve always assumed they were less violent. Partly because it’s difficult to think of an ape more violent that we are – hunter gatherer murder rates are something like 40% of all males die of murder. And secondly because, well, we won, right?

  1. Indeed. I thought the theory was that they were less violent, so we killed ‘em off, after a bit of helpful shagging to benefit the HS gene pool. As per The Inheritors.

  2. I had sort of come to the conclusion that the main difference was their communications skills were inferior to homo sapiens.

Which is why we northern chaps (with a slightly higher neanderthal quotient) tend to be taciturn peaceful types, while southern Europenas and africans (lower neanderthal quotients) tend to be loqucious and prone to sudden violence.

  3. BiI,

There is nothing wrong with MrsBud’s communication skills. Although firey, she is not given to violence, but I wouldn’t push her to the point of extinction.

  4. Historians love to pretend ancient man was some kind of noble savage. Next we’ll hear the Neanderthals were big on women’s empowerment and were well represented by trannies in their tribal meetings.

  5. I was fascinated to learn recently that Neanderthal genes have been discovered in the DNA of people from the European/Asian populations. Which will then include the New World populations, as they migrated across the Bering land bridge long after the Neanderthals became extinct.
    But no mention of Africans.
So gammon Europeans are genetically distinct from their culturally superior African cousins? We are not all one Kum-Bi-Yah happy family?
It’s like waiting for a bomb to go off.

  6. Has this hypothesis been considered? Apes are generally very poor at throwing things. Hom Sap is unusual, due to shape of shoulder.
Stone throwers have an advantage over pikemen, being able to work at longer range and with multiple warheads. Add a more gracile form to aid in running away and you have a murderous advantage, even if you are killing apes brainier than you.

  7. Indeed, Mr Gamecock and Neanderthals have changed considerably in the last few years. Whoever would think people extinct 40,000 years would be so up-to-date on cutting edge genetics? Ug was no fool.

    Exactly!

You’d enjoy ‘A Troublesome Inheritance: Genes, race & humsn history’ by Nicholas Wade.

  9. According to some geneticists there is a touch of the Neanderthal in all of us, some a bit more some a bit less. Must go, I’ve seen an animal to chase for lunch.

    and, supporting, BiS

We all have a dash of Neanderthal or Denisovian(for the Asians) in us, except for sub-Saharan Africans, who have none. That is quite a profound difference in genetic make-up.

  11. David Reich gives the most recent detailed account of the distribution of Neanderthal and Denisovan genes around the world, but not present in subSaharan Africa in “Who we are and How we got here”.

  12. TN, did female Neanderthals go hunting while the males stayed in the cave looking after the sprogs, teaching them to make fire and how to paint on the cave walls? More importantly, did Neanderthals engage in polyamory?

    1. Average sub-saharan IQs are only marginally higher than an average border collie.

    2. Sub-saharan languages are deeply imprecise about measurement and moral obligation. ‘I promise’ in English means little more than ‘I’ll try’ in many sub-saharan languages.

    3. Sub-saharans have a very limited sense of personal responsibility. Demonic possession is their excuse. I didn’t kill him: I was possessed by an evil spirit.

    4. Sub-saharans have produced no great civilisation. Their art and music belong to the childhood of the human race. And no Nobels in the hard sciences.

    5. Their descendants rapidly sink to the bottom of any society they join. Despite trillions of US $, the average afro-american IQ remains stubbornly low.

    6. Any black who achieves anything significant by western standards is a hybrid involving a northern hemisphere race.

Uncomfortable? Yes, given current cultural fashions. However, unless our rulers recognise such truths, they will continue to import more incompatibles and charge us for the inevitable consequences.

  15. Europeans have traces of Neanderthal DNA (this was not widely known when was young and making jocular reference to my Neanderthal forehead) but two different groups of Asians and Australasians have traces of Denisovan DNA and someone has recently found traces of a different DNA source (in due course someone will identify the now-extinct sub-group).
The Neanderthal skull is a good argument for them being less inclined to violence: I have never succeeded in injuring someone by hitting them however much they deserved it but three guys have damaged/hurt their hands on my head. So the reward/risk ratio for Neanderthals attacking other Neanderthals would have been lower.

  16. Neanderthals being a “theological” construct of evolutionists when they were an ape’s head superimposed on a human

  17. Dear Theo, I live in South Africa which is as far sub as sub-Saharan goes. My black boss at Palace Engineering could do calculus in his head and he’d watch patiently while I battled with differentiation on paper and told me where I was going wrong. The average black landline technician does a far better job than his white predecessor, who would stand back anyway and watch while his black crew did all the work. We have some real dimwits, yes, but you of the North Atlantic countries have Theresa May and Andrew Cuomo, so it’s pretty even.

  18. @ bis
From what I’ve read the “native americans” (or whatever the latest PC name for them is) possibly have Denisovan DNA but not Neanderthal because they migrated from East/North-East Asia whereas the Neanderthals mostly resided in Europe
