  1. “is there actually any MP at all who trusts her on Brexit? ”

Is there any evidence Teresa May trusts Teresa May on Brexit?

  2. As opposed to all those other more trustworthy MPs?

There are those who have been tested and failed; and those who haven’t been tested yet. Once in a lifetime we might see a statesman who is tested and succeeds; but they’re unlikely to come from the current crop.

  3. Andrew M,

Rory Stewart has potential. Dan Jarvis was looking good but the takeover ofLabour by Momentum has dimmed his star. There’s a couple of other ex military starting to make a name, notably Johnny Mercer, but I think he’s destined to remain on the back bench campaigning on mental health because he really pissed off the Tory top brass.

  4. Rory Stewart is remainaic scum who needs to be out on his arse a s a p. He is Treason May-sucking trash on a par with absolute slime like Morecambe Morris. Tory trash.

  5. Don’t hold back Ecks, tell us what you really think.

I’m a bit surprised at Rory Stewart. With his experience I would have expected him to take a more sceptical view of the EU.

  6. ‘There is nothing that you could say to me now that I could ever believe.’

    Jimmy ‘Gordon’ Brown.

Should be carved in stone over the door to number 10.

  7. So you have a liar and hypocrite claiming that British MPs distrust another liar and hypocrite.
True as his words are (for a change), there must surely be an ulterior motive for this declaration, one that benefits his stance on Brexit.
Perhaps a British MP could publicly suggest the same of European politician’s views of Junk the drunk?

  8. I attended a Spectator event where Rory Stewart defended May’s “deal”. He did not get an easy ride.
Half way through he started boasting of his patriotism. For someone who had taken the Queen’s commission, sworn the oath of allegiance as an PM, and another oath on becoming a minister this was pretty rum.
I started to think of Dr Johnson, and began to count the spoons.

  9. Rory Stewart is robotic when interviewed, beginning every answer with “So…”. I can’t see him rising much above the lower ranks of the Cabinet, at best.

    Ovoid:

Dr Johnson’s remark that “Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel” is widely misunderstood. As Boswell indicates, Dr Johnson was referring to what scoundrels do, not what patriotism is.

Indeed, and I find it very annoying.

  11. @BiND

Rory Stewart, like Javid, sold his soul to Cameron and became an ex-Brexiter. Like anyone racked with guilt he now doubles down and campaigns for May’s “Deal”.

Liam Fox is a similar traitor as is Gove.
