How we get to hundreds

Exposed: the horror Zimbabwe is hiding behind a news blackout

I’d believe it, certainly.

Hundreds of people, including children as young as 10, have been killed

Really? Shit!

And then:

Hundreds of people, including children as young as 10, have been killed or beaten in Zimbabwe

Ah.

No, government killing people, government beating people, both wrong. And yet Blair Peach was not British government beats demonstrators to death was it? A demonstrator, possibly….

  1. African country is still a violent shithole, eh? Blimey.

If I’d known this at primary school, I’d have saved that money I wasted on the “black babies” and bought crisps instead.

  2. Not being terminally stupid, I refrain from contributing good beer money in support of the Times’ claimed journalism. So the only portion of the article I was able to read was:

“Last week civil society groups, led by the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, wrote to the EU accusing President Emmerson Mnangagwa of using “murder of unarmed civilians as a tool to retain power”.
They demanded that he be barred from entering Switzerland unless he..”
Which leaves me wondering if it’s Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition ot Times journalists who’re geographically challenged. Switzerland ain’t in the EU.

  3. Sounds familiar. Same as the “rape (and innuendo)” or “homelessness (and in temporary accommodation)” statistics.

Take a truly horrible, and therefore thankfully fairly rare, situation to get shock value, then link it to a related but less bad thing to get bigger statistics.

  4. Last week civil society groups, led by the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, wrote to the EU accusing President Emmerson Mnangagwa

I wrote to my local plumber complaining about Sainsbury’s.

  5. If we were worried we’d build Emmerson Mangle a golden bridge to Switzerland and keep him there. Despots who go abroad often do not return to their regimes undeposed.

  6. Hundreds of people, including children as young as 10, have been killed or beaten in Zimbabwe

    Well,

Mr Crocodile and his family do need to eat and we’re told not to eat beef, pork, lamb, bambi, chicken, fish….

  7. During the time Mugabe was doling out similar punishment to Zimbabweans, neighbouring nations were hailing him as a hero.

If they don’t care, why should we?
