Women around the world march against austerity and violence
Tens of thousands take to city streets to protest against violence and the impact of austerity on their lives

Propelled by a mass public rendition of Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves and accompanied by a thudding police helicopter overhead, hundreds of protesters have rallied in central London in solidarity with an estimated 89 Women’s Marches worldwide.

In Athens, Berlin, Washington DC and Los Angeles, to name just a few, tens of thousands of demonstrators turned out to protest against violence against women and the impact of policies of austerity.

Thousands, tens of thousands, all most impressive. Then look again, London, hundreds.

A crowd of hundreds in London is nothing, spit in the sea of the city. There were hundreds shopping in Marks and Spencers. The Oxford Street branch alone. Between 1 and 2 pm. Hundreds, in a city of 8 million, is smaller than the queue for Tube tickets.

  1. NOT ONLY violence BUT ALSO austerity!

The lack of focus is a giveaway.

I hate this restuarant. The food is terrible and just look at those curtains! Burn it to the ground!

  2. “The lack of focus is a giveaway.”

Some woman interviewed on Al-J rattled off about 62 issues they were marching for. Women are good at multi-tasking see…

  3. The small gathering in BiGville made a point of blocking the public transport network. Which I consider to be class war. The urban elite, wealthy enough to go on protest marches, stopping poor people from getting around.

  4. 60K mainly blokes went to Arsenal vs Chelsea yesterday. Anyone asking them what special favours they’d like from society?

  5. I think that what we have here is a bunch of people who don’t have any actual problems. But instead of blessing their good fortune and getting on with life they feel the need to invent things to protest about and then go and protest about them.

  6. I wonder if the women noticed that the country’s leader is a woman? Apparently “austerity” and “violence” aren’t male prerogatives. I bet not one of them liked Magaret Thatcher.

  7. It’s in some ways a shame that ISIL has been reduced to such a rump as ideally I would have liked these ‘demonstrators’ to be exchanged with the victims of some real ‘sexist’ ‘patriarchs’ as opposed to ‘victims’ of the random and disparate selection of grievances that constituted the ‘manifesto’ of this bizarre demonstration. Certainly – one cannot feel a sense of ‘fin de siecle’ when beings such as these are not only present in the country but actually treated seriously rather than in need of psychiatric help.

  8. So what?

Thousands of French people have been protesting every weekend for nearly 3 months. Some have been killed and many have been seriously injured.

Hardly a peep from the media.

  9. Good day
