Ever so slightly infelicitous

But I can’t help noticing that Gentleman Jack is the latest in a glut of recent high-profile lesbian period dramas.

Umm, yes.

recent high-profile lesbian dramas

OK

recent high-profile period dramas

OK.

But

recent high-profile lesbian period dramas

Looks like an extremely specialised taste there.

Still, this is the BBC, it won’t be that graphic. Maybe they’ll shout at each other then eat chocolate together?

  1. The glut of lesbian costume dramas is a cynical trend

That has to qualify for best headline of the year (to date).

Seriously, no comedian alive could write anything that funny.

  2. “Looks like an extremely specialised taste there.”

I’m afraid I have to go even more specialised. The gratuitous/ incidental ones are fine, its the melodramatic angsty ones you have to worry about eating up your never to be enjoyed life time again.

  3. > Maybe they’ll shout at each other then eat chocolate together?

    While petting the cats?

  4. “The glut of lesbian costume dramas is a cynical trend”

    Also

“The complete absence of lesbian costume dramas would be a something something men are bad.”

    And

“A token lesbian costume drama would be a something something men are bad”

    And so on.

  5. The BBC pretty much specialise in the olde costume dramas. It’s very much an export niche for them. And it doesn’t matter that much if the lesbian aspect is not really there. People will tune in just in case…

Personally, I object to gratiutous nudity on TV. Plenty of porn out there.

  6. !The glut of lesbian costume dramas is a cynical trend!

Maybe My beautiful laundrette will be remade Ghostbusters style.

  7. BBC is trying to emulate Spinal Tap, albeit not knowing it’s not supposed to. Spinal Tap look upon their dwindling attending audience and boldly say that their music have become more selective.
