Well Owen, it’s like this, you see?

Far-right violence is on the rise. Where is the outrage?
Owen Jones

Human beings are inconsistent creatures. It depends upon who is getting the slapping, d’ye see?

There is also that thought that those who say we must “fight” fascism, “fight” racism, “fight homophobia” might get people confused as to what the word “fight” actually means.

  1. Not to mention that fascism is an offshoot of socialism. So not right-wing at all, let alone “far-right”.

  2. Considering the amount of violence directed against the indigenous British people by Asians and Africans on a daily basis, and the lack of concern from the British authorities about it, the only surprising thing is that there isn’t more ‘far-right’ violence.

  3. Far-right violence is on the rise.

The evidence provided for this statement is a Muslim getting stabbed by a Ukrainian in 2013, Jo Cox and Jones himself being attacked by persons unknown.

I’m surprised he didn’t include the bus lesbians, at least it is clear from the photos that they were attacked, which is more than you can say for Jones. Perhaps he considers (as most of us do) that this example will not serve him well.

Muslim terrorists have killed 35 people in Britain since 2013 (by my wikipedia reckoning). Mind you, if there is any ideology present in Britain which deserves to be called far right, it is Islam.

  4. The adage whereby sauce for the goose was equally appropriate for the gander no longer holds. The socialist gander is privileged poultry (similarly the gay gander, the trans gander, the black gander etc. etc.)

  5. For someone who was kicked in the head Jones has remained remarkably lucid (cue jokes) and shows little signs of being in a fight. Even if he’d just fallen over you’d expect some bumps and scrapes.

An no independent witnesses or CCTV footage? If it was pre-meditated and that well planned he’d have been beaten to within an inch of his life, not just the one-off kick.

    Curiouser and curiouser.

I suspect a drunken scuffle that got out of hand.

  6. Yeah I was really bugged by the Guardian’s breathless coverage of the anniversary of Peterloo, which they hold up as some kind of revolutionary episode in British history.

Demanding it is taught about in every school etc. A new monument has been built at great expense. Mike Leigh film (probably funded by taxpayers somewhere along the line) etc.

Whilst it was a tragic occasion, and had some political impact, less people were killed than in the Manchester Arena bombing. And I don’t see the Guardian demanding that gets taught in every school.

Don’t even get me started on the Tolpuddle Martyrs. British left-wing history is seriously lame.

  7. @ MC “Muslim terrorists have killed 35 people in Britain since 2013”

    According to the website thereligionofpeace.com

There have been 66 Islamic attacks in 19 countries in which 582 people have died and 825 injured

Not since 2013 or this year….but in the last 30 days.

Where is the outrage from the left as happens over attacks such as in NZ, where the country is virtually blackmailed into minute’s silences and collective guilt?

Instead it’s all about how ‘the far right’ are on the rise.

  8. Pillow biting twat!

    Homophobic right wing fascist!

    Slap

    Drunken fall

Endless articles about far right violence

  9. Mohammed Saleem was murdered by a terrorist, and yet you’ve probably never even heard of him. It was April 2013, and the 82-year-old was walking home from evening prayers at a mosque in Small Heath, Birmingham. A Ukrainian neo-Nazi terrorist – who had bombed three mosques – stabbed him three times from behind

This tragedy would’ve been avoided if we didn’t have an open door immigration policy.

“He was a very beautiful, educated man who empowered all of his five daughters – and his sons as well – to pursue education, and loved and appreciated everything Britain gave him,”

    Don’t they all?

Or what of a 32-year-old black man in east London who, in June 2018, had to crawl on his knees to the A12 to escape a racist attack: he’d been stabbed five times.

Sadly, London is plagued by stabby and acidy attacky white men. 🙁

Members of the left are, according to this mindset, traitors to their nation, seeking to destroy it through mass immigration of culturally hostile aliens, and are allies of a despised enemy – Islam

Astonishing how anyone could get this crazy idea about people who openly gloat about “rubbing their noses” in diversity.

How was Nigel Farage able to brag that Brexit had been won “without a single bullet being fired”

Because it’s true. The murder of Jo Cox had literally nothing to do with the various pro-Brexit campaigns, other than the press immediately using it as a bloody shirt to depress Leave turnout.

and later declare he’d “don khaki, pick up a rifle and head for the front lines” if Brexit wasn’t delivered, without his political or media career suffering?

Because normal people understand rhetoric, and nobody thinks Nige is actually going to dress up as Captain Mainwairing and invade Belgium.

In the clash between fascists and antifascists in Charlottesville, Trump infamously declared there “were very fine people on both sides”, and in doing so founded “both-sideism”

    Orange Man Bad!

  10. In the clash between fascists and antifascists in Charlottesville, Trump infamously declared there “were very fine people on both sides”

This has been so comprehensively debunked, that any use of it can only be attributed to malice.

  11. “There is also that thought that those who say we must “fight” fascism, “fight” racism, “fight homophobia” might get people confused as to what the word “fight” actually means.”

My violence is protected speech; your speech is violence.

    It would be fun though.

  13. I find it difficult to believe that, in Central London, even if there was no CCTV of the actual event there wouldn’t be footage of the alleged perps going to or from the scene.

  14. ‘Members of the left are, according to this mindset, traitors to their nation, seeking to destroy it through mass immigration of culturally hostile aliens, and are allies of a despised enemy – Islam’

    And his point is?

  15. Mr Jones (not the famous one who said ‘they don’t like it up ’em’ of course) told us that he was attacked with military precision.

I am not sure how he knows this, but maybe he is familiar with people who say “hello, sailor” outside pubs, and do know,

  16. Steve said:

I think Richard Tice would make a pretty good Sergeant Wilson.

  17. “Or what of a 32-year-old black man in east London who, in June 2018, had to crawl on his knees to the A12 to escape a racist attack”

@Steve: interesting case. He’d been drinking with them before the ‘racist attack’…

  18. Far Right violence is on the rise

… but at present rates of increase it will never catch up with Far Left violence.

  19. Owen and friends were allegedly attacked by half their number – if each had grabbed one arm of an attacker, said attacker would not have been able to punch anyone.
How far do we believe him?

  20. Owen’s outrage might be more convincing if he wasn’t avowedly in favour of violence* against the ‘far right’ (defined as anyone who disagrees with him).

    * Yes, throwing a milk-shake over someone is a violent act.

  21. @ Chris Miller
Owen’s outrage is (assuming that he was, actually, ineffectively attacked) purely that he personally was attacked by his inferiors (i.e. anyone who is not a left-wing TV pundit or Guardian journalist).
Send him a spoof report of a UKIP attack on the English Defence League giving Stephen Yaxley-Lennon a black eye, a bloody nose and severe bruising and watch to see if he sympathises with Yaxley-Lennon.
