As I understand it, anyone who transitions knows that they’re going to have to give up a number of things. But the results of transitioning are going to be worth it.
Hmm. OK. So, that’s like every other choice any of us makes in life then. Opportunity costs are, after all, real.
So, perhaps everyone just has to put up with the fact that transitioning means no more competitive sport for you.
??
Clearly you’re a transphobic witch Tim. You need to be burned alive, which we’ll get around to just as soon as we can figure out how to capture the carbon dioxide 🙂
The answer I feel is that sport must have two categories, Female (in chromosones etc,) and open..
If you don’t have a female option you undermine sport for girls which is a bad option for health etc. How many girls are going to want to compete in an activity where the successful look like East German weight lifters.
The open category allows anyone. If you complain you can’t compete because of a a lack of testosterone you are showing why you shouldn’t be allowed in the female competition as you would have an unfair advantage
Rupert, clearly although Tim might just possibly be evil enough to be burned as a transphobic, there is no need to capture the CO2. Tim has often acclaimed a carbon tax as sufficient to handle the problem.
Of course, he’s right about trans-sport. Didn’t we use to have a ministry for that?
I don ‘t get the argument here from the alphabet soup brigade – admittedly I must confess a bias as I have run a sub 2:14 marathon which would make me a world record holder if I had YY chromosomes. But I have XY chromosomes, so have the narrower hips, the higher testosterone, the ability to recover from a hard session, and the lower body fat and the absence of boobs, so outperforming every female athlete ever is a cool thing to say at parties, but really is not that big an achievement compared to Kosgei, Radcliffe and Benoit.
The bit I don’t get is how those who have transitioned are prevented from competing. They are welcome to compete, just against those with the same number of birth testicles (2) and penises (1). What have I missed?
“The answer I feel is that sport must have two categories, Female (in chromosones etc,) and open..”
WTF? Why not Male and Open?
Check for X or Y in saliva. The end.
“As I understand it, anyone who transitions knows that they’re going to have to give up a number of things. ”
Though not it appears a cock and balls…………………..
Nah.
Just whatever the organizers of the various leagues want.
Y’all are missing it. Once a person makes an excuse (and has the backing of a political bloc that has cowed the rest of the nation with bullying and armchair psychiatry about phobias), everyone else must perform “reasonable accommodation” (ADA).
If you are a woman pretending to be a man, leagues must allow you to juice up despite their rules against performance-enhancing drugs that screw up post-athletics lives–as any medical treatment you undergo to flesh out your fantasy will too. If you are a man pretending to be a woman, the real women must simply move to the back of the team bus and let you dominate.
There is no reason any honest person would compete in the “Other” division. It would be cheaters only. The next question is: Would fans be required to patronize it in equal numbers to the real-men’s and real-women’s teams?
@ Bongo
Colour me impressed! I was pretty pleased to break three hours (a long time ago) but that’s faster than my PB for a mile.
Dr McKinnon, as a distinguished academic[1] would doubtless disagree with you, and points out in a highly sophisticated and analytical[2] paper that they and their kith do not enjoy any material physical advantage over women as a result of transition:

Oh, and Mumsnet is not happy with DrRMcK:

Those who are transgender are a vanishingly small percentage of the population. No transgender athlete has ever qualified for the olympics, let alone won a medal. There are many more natural conditions, XXY, androgen insensitivity etc which affect people naturally, and natural variation in nerve tissue etc, which far more outweigh results.
The lint is that this, small, area of difference is being exploited by those who who are antitransgender and, to be honest, are probably also homophobic.
You’re all missing the point. Apart from the ones who are openly taking the piss to make a point the rest are saddo’s looking to boost their own egos. They wouldn’t get in to the top [20%] of male events but after declaring themselves Trans they can win at whatever level it is they want to compete and claim to be Village/County/State or whatever champions.
I’ve seen something similar in sailing. I was doing safety for a dinghy class world championship and commented to my very experienced crew that the ones at the back weren’t particularly good dinghy sailors (I’m crap and they looked worse than me). He pointed out that officially they will be [80th] in the world even thogh they came last and would have bragging rights in their clubs. Everyone knows its bollocks because they only entered as it was effectively just down the road and they wouldn’t be entering the next event in Florida.
I suspect that some of these transwomen athletes are just gaming the system, knowing that if they decide they are women they go from also rans in the male category to winners in the female. They certainly don’t seem to want to go the whole hog and have surgery as no doubt when their athletic career is over they’ll suddenly remember that they are actually men. From some of the photos i’ve seen there efforts to appear as female is little more than growing their hair slightly longer and shaving their legs. If I’m wrong I suggest they prove it by having reassignment surgery (and no storage of their men parts in the freezer for later reattachment)
@ Josephine
The estate in which I lived 30-odd years ago had a tennis club using the courts of the adjacent school and the ladies event was won several years in succession by a middle-aged transgender ex-rugby player. I can still remember the pleasure – hers and mine – when a young lady informed me that she had won that year’s final against the aforesaid person.
The problem is not limited to Olympic sport.
“Generations of hard work cultivating women’s sports, oceans of money spent, and ‘transgender activists’ will burn it all to the ground in a matter of months. Women’s sports are over, feminists. You lost an intersectional squabble with a more preferred victim group.” John Hayward
@josephine – you did look at the photos of gold-winning transgender McKinnon next to the silver and bronze athletes? I’m not sure how that height and musculature difference qualifies as “small”.
john77,
But why are people letting these hairy men in skirts play?
This is where big government and big institutional sport gets you. At one time, it would be “piss off, you’re a man.” and that would be that. Want to play a bunch of trannies? set up your own damn club.
So, perhaps everyone just has to put up with the fact that transitioning means no more competitive sport for you.
Sport, being an artificial, human construct, is full of issues like this one. If you’re under 7 ft, you’re never going to be a professional basketball player, I don’t care how talented you are or how much practice you’re prepared to do. Nick Kyrgios was a basketball player in his youth, but had to turn to tennis (where he’s rather good) because he’s ‘only’ 6’4″.
Women’s athletics set a limit on testosterone levels, which means pre-op men identifying as women must take testosterone suppressing drugs to take part. This means that the unfortunate Caster Semenya cannot compete as a woman. But most top athletes are to some extent genetic freaks. Usain Boult was no doubt a fierce competitor and did plenty of training, but his physique made him look like a different species from his competitors.
“everyone else must perform “reasonable accommodation” (ADA).”
Very perceptive, Spike.
Democrats figured out they could get the personality disordered vote by accommodating them. Bill Clinton’s ADA was the grand prize, creating law to force accommodation.
The Democrats strive to encompass all personality disordered groups. Not because they care, but because freaks’ votes count as much as anyone else’s. They tell blacks that it’s not really their fault, it’s the white male patriarchy that causes all their problems. Same with wimmins.
@ BoM4
When the tennis club was formed and wrote the rules they did not imagine that there would be transgender individuals, let alone one who wanted to play tennis.
I assume that other clubs have similar problems.
Chris Miller,
“Usain Boult was no doubt a fierce competitor and did plenty of training, but his physique made him look like a different species from his competitors.”
Bolt had only been running the 100m for about a year when he broke the world record, and did it on his 5th competitive race. His starts are not very good. He’s really suited to 200m and 400m but wanted to do 100m (wise as it’s the event that makes you a star in athletics).
Josephine, you may want to get your facts right.
Britain fielded several transgender athletes at the last Olympics.
This is a growing problem.
And NZ will quite likely have a trans medal winner next Olympics if she recovers from injury fast enough. She’s already got a World Champ silver medal.
She’s 41 for goodness sake. Once young ex-men start competing then strength sports will be beyond natural women.

X-Men? I think we might have a new pejorative.

You don’t need a change of chromosomes, you don’t even need to have the old chap whipped off. Just change your gender and get competing. The more people who do this, the more the sheer lunacy of the tranny madness is exposed.
To avoid any law suits – couldn’t any club / organisation simply change their rules?
Formally remove the current competition category that is “female” and introduce a new category called YY. It’s not being “-ist” in any way, at least no more than having a female category in the past was. Include any other additional category they want (“mixed”, etc), with the final category being “open” in which any variable of XYZ can freely compete.
Women’s athletics set a limit on testosterone levels, which means pre-op men identifying as women must take testosterone suppressing drugs to take part.
Unfortunately, by this point they’ve had at least a decade of testosterone levels ‘off the scale’ to boost their muscle mass.

Assuming the Law doesn’t get them, and the club’s resources stretches to hundreds of thousands of pounds successfully fighting cases brought by extremely well funded nutcases, the Trans lobby will. Harassed 24/7, constant media attention, God knows what else.
Rob
Maybe a whole load of clubs need to do together – en masse – safety in numbers? Perhaps a way forward that avoids the stupidity of whatever nonsensical law might be invoked?
En masse would make far more sense anyway – as clubs play each other in leagues etc.
Most clubs are members of national organisations that are set up in part to lobby for their interests. Any definition of female needs to be done at that level.
You notice it’s only ever men wanting to compete in women’s events. You don’t hear of the opposite, of bearded ladies demanding they be entered with men. Strange when they are men as well, aren’t they? Oh no, they’re okay still competing against women, just pumped to bursting with testosterone. That’s fair, innit?
Of course, this area is fertile ground for possibilities. How long before ‘trans-species’ nutters demand anyone who identifies as a dog be allowed to enter Crufts? Then if he didn’t win he could skweeem about duh foebiks couldn’t he?
And what about the good old days when loons claimed to be Napoleon? Now they’d be lobbying to be made Emperor’s of France, and win.
And what about the good old days when loons claimed to be Napoleon? Now they’d be lobbying to be made Emperor’s of France, and win.
TBF they couldn’t do worse than the current ’emperor’.
I’ve decided to identify as a fast bowler who can bowl at 95mph and swing it both ways at the same time (ooh er missus!). Anyone who dares to say that the deliveries I’m bowling (which to untrained eye look like slow full tosses) are anything other than unplayable thunderbolts is committing a hate crime and must be arrested immediately. I am fully expecting to be picked to open the bowling for England with this wonderful skill I’ve decided I’ve got, and if the opposition batsmen don’t 100% comply with my self assessment of my abilities, I’ll have them arrested too.
Of course I’m not sure what happens if I have to bowl at someone who self identifies as Don Bradman………..
I weigh 16st, but I identify as 8st, so I demand to enter a Flyweight boxing match.
@ jgh
I should *really* advise against that: you will get hurt if you do. Flyweights tend to be very fast moving.
