Daily Mail Quandrary!

Just seen the front page today:

"Will We Have Room for Them All?"

or some such.

The UK population will increase by a third, to 81million, in the lifetime of children born today, experts predict.

So a small competitionette: what should the headline have been?

"Immigrants support house prices"?

  1. Apologies Tim — I should have been clearer. I was talking to AntiCitizenOne, about his apparently unpublished findings that invalidate the entirety of climate modelling.

  2. I could not afford to buy the house I now own, now.
    Thats not progress its stagnation.

the number of people I know who cannot afford to move from what they have is also alarming.

I guess you guys have not bothered with children?

  3. I could not afford to buy the house I now own, now. Thats not progress its stagnation.

But you could afford to buy it, because you’d have the money from selling it. In other words, it’s neither progress nor stagnation – it’s a massive transfer of the distribution of wealth from non-homeowners to homeowners.

As a non-homeowner who’s unlikely to get a massive inheritance, I’m far from delighted about this – but it’s a distributional effect, not an indication that incomes have gone backwards.

  4. Christ, Stuart, you’re still on that?

I do apologise for returning to it. But as far as I can tell, ACO has some sort of mathematical analysis that invalidates the entirety of climate change modelling. That seems something worth pursuing. We could all give up debating the issue if he just made public his work. All those climate scientists could turn to something more productive.

  5. “But you could afford to buy it, because you’d have the money from selling it”

No as a first time buyer I could not afford the house I bought as a first time buyer. and yes I do earn a lot more than back then.

we cant preach the gospel of property rights to our kids, if they don’t stand a reasonable chance of having some. eventually they will just vote themselves richer and get the government to steal someone else’s.

Well, someone has to vote Liberal Democrat!
