Superb News!

THE Arts Council is planning to scrap funding for nearly one in five of the theatres, orchestras and arts organisations that it supports. The cull, the biggest since the council was set up in 1946, is being described this weekend as a “bloodbath”.

Only 4/5ths to go then!

  1. I don’t think that these ‘cuts’ actually involve a reduction in the Arts Council budget, so there is nothing to get excited about. In fact instead of subsidising theatres we will now be subsidising (more) clowns:

This year the Arts Council’s new theatre policy document dropped new writing from its list of priorities, promoting circus skills and street performance in its stead. What’s going on?

  2. So Much For Subtlety

They are going to be giving money to those arseholes who busk in the Tube? I wonder if it has escaped their notice that if I wanted to give those annoying little sh!ts my hard earned cash I could do so every time I walk past them as they inflict their acoustic versions of 80s “classics” on me? If I don’t want to (and indeed would prefer to see them grease the tracks of the Tube than put up with them for one second longer) what on Earth makes them think they ought to do so on my behalf with my money?

And mime artists? Let me point to Terry Pratchett’s Lord Vetinari and suggest they adopt his policy towards mime artists. I am sure London has room for a scorpion pit or two.
