Any Clues?

As the weekly news cycle comes to an end and darkness descends on a gloomy Friday, there are two great news stories doing the rounds, neither of which the great British media can report. One involves a famous broadcaster and his love child by another journalist and is covered by an injunction. The other is covered by a D-Notice. Good to live in a free country, isn\’t it?

OK, the journo and the love child I\’ve got over at Guido\’s.

The D-Notice one I\’ve not. Apparently something about a young royal? Some reference to Popbitch perhaps? In entirely unrelated news they said something about the Hotel Serena in Kabul getting hit again?

Guido\’s comments seem to have mutterings about paternity…..

  1. I think this is a mistake by Guido tbh…

I can’t see the ‘public interest’ is served by naming three people in journalism, only one of who will be familiar to the public (in a ‘him off the telly…?’ fashion).

Plus, there’s the feelings of the poor offspring to consider, who is the only innocent in this.

  2. Sorry, it’s not ‘new news’.

But why is it news? Media elites don’t publicise such things seems to be Guido’s angle, but then again neither do investment banking elites, or internet elites. Possibly if it had been someone who does go around exposing others, such as the SUN editor, or if any of the three had been banging on about family values, but I dont’t think they have.

  3. “Media elites don’t publicise such things seems to be Guido’s angle, but then again neither do investment banking elites, or internet elites.”

Except that media elites are always banging on about how the media is a vital organ of information, necessary in a democracy, etc. etc. They then demonstrate just how vital they are by burying stories about themselves.

  4. I think the point that Guido is making of the á troise is that this is one of those stories that everyone in the media village has known about for ages and has chosen not to share with the great unwashed.
Do you remember the ‘Parkinson love child’ that gave the media such excellent value a few years ago? That particular issue( :~} ) was recalled this week as an example of the ever remembered ‘Tory sleeze’ by a journalist not too far from the Grauniad’s pristine pages. Why was that so news worthy if this isn’t?

The great unwashed won’t care, unless it’s Britney or on of Atomic Kitten. Who could even pick the two women out of a line up..?!

“Why was that so news worthy if this isn’t?”

It involved a politician. Not a glorified teleprompt writer and two fish & chip paper scribblers.

  6. One of the advantages of the old idea of sending them to the navy was that they were likely to survive or to drown, rather than be mutilated by fuzzi-wuzzies. Why on earth was he allowed to build up his hopes of being a more-or-less ordinary army officer?
